Tides? What tides? As long as you've got plenty of grog and rolley papers who cares about tides.
It's an ill wind that blows too many cooks to make light work in time.

it seems as though willow u dont have munch tidal flow up ur way. Ive seen guys loosing tractrs on the beach.

Ok ur probably wondering why im talking about tractors for. Well Midge Point is famous for it tractors. every man and his dog has one. But one day there was a major disaster when the tide came in and every tractor that was lined up was indated with a meter of seawater over the top.

ok my report fish the channel on the incoming tide there sure to be whiting lurking.

I almost caught a fish the other day, first keeper in years, but fell of the line at the last minute.

Yeah, I used to fish out of Brisbane and always caught heaps, same as my trips down to Iluka, always caught plenty, but Central Qld is bloody hopeless fishery. Give me Moreton Bay anytime.

well guys for our region it looking brillant to chuck in a line. Try the islands on the incoming tide, avoid the seabreeze as the tides and winds combined makes trip hazadous. tides are quites reasonable. I fished the mouth of the Proserpine river about an hour after the turn and got some massive sand summer whiting. i caught 15 off the beach and the fish taste brilliant. beaware though the tides there come in quite quickly, ask a local to help u where to go as weve had a few falitys cars that is. A local guy was embarrsed when he parked his 4wd on the beach, only to realise he forgot the time and tide, when going back to shore he saw a large snorkel hanging out of water.

Windee,
Here it's pretty good if you know where and when to go...you really don't even need a boat..
These days unless the freezer is empty, we have been throwing back any bream that are under 30cm.. Everyone got sick of eating muddys so we don't go out in boat to put traps out now..though we did discover another new recipe "yum".

SMTG,
How big are the average whiting up there...There hasn't been a terrible lot down here

I moved from Bribie Island (Northern Moreton Bay) where anything from snapper/tuna/mackerel/cobia were a daily catch in the bay, and Big Muddies/Mangrove Jacks/Big Jew/small snapper/giant Flathead/trevelly/bream/whiting/etc were readily available in the estuary.......................................... To Rockhampton area, where a catfish or stingray is considered a front page capture. I have not caught a keeper here since 2002.

Surely Stanage Bay is not too far up the road for you Windee. You can't keep em out of the boat up there.

Windee we fish the kepples and wider grounds and have found the the fishing quite good. But we find inside the kepples a waste of time. For good land based and boat fishing as willow said stanage bay.

My wildest dreams are still trying to picture a 72cm sand whiting....must be a typo.
King George maybe but they don't live north.

Most of the 72cm whiting have been eaten by the 3 metre flathead nowadays.

I am guessing he ment 27cm, not 72cm. I used to fish the Prossy River alot and got some great Whiting on the banks just upstream from Flying Fox Island, my biggest was 34cm on a live prawn ment for a King Salmon.
