You'd want to get the boat that knows whether there's anyone in the cage Popeye... Will be some hell footage out soon if that was a camera handed up at 53 seconds.

They did an interview with this guy last night on the project. He went back in a cage the following day.

From what I can work out and from the airbubbles rising, the diver must have slipped out of the cage when the shark was in there and he came back in at the end. You could see the bubbles rising to the Right in the water. So I guess the guy onboard saying there is no one in the cage was true to some extent. Lucky bugger though.

It seems there is a shark around Byron with a fetish for thighs.

If they had worked the scale of the thing out to suit the ripples in the water may have been better.
Also a bit of gausian blur on the subject may have helped too.

Impressive footage near Byron.

Watched a doco the other night and they were saying in the vast majority of interactions between sharks and people they simply swim by, but in murky water and late afternoon / early morning they may mistake us for seals.

Very impressive footage there CF, goes to show we can swim with sharks!!

I wonder if this is the same shark swimming in the one area or is it multiple sharks?

It's a nursery. I read a while ago somewhere that there are thought to be around 250 juvenile GW sharks in that region at certain times.

A woman today reported that a 3 mtr shark swam alongside her mother out the front here when she was chest deep this arvo. Bullsharks are fairly common here apparently.

The old rule of murky water and dusk n dawn has always applied. Sadly the last half dozen attacks down there have been in clear beautiful conditions in middle of the day. We call them attacks but on most occasions the sharks are simply havin an inquisitive nibble to see what the thing in front of them is , hence why most are surviving with minor injuries. Simply a matter of humans and sharks in the same space, gona happn. What I don't get is how the nets actually work , they aren't there to catch sharks but be a deterrent , and the stats are solid , I just don't get it.

Perhaps it is the bycatch in the nets providing food for the sharks that reduces their interest in us? People swim with Bullsharks all the time in one river in South Africa and they've never recorded an attack. Instead the sharks have learnt to sit under the fishing boats and steal their catch.

The waters at home here are seldom clear so no surprise there are sharks here. North of the Burnett it is usually murky. Usually also if someone says 3 mtrs that translates into 2-2.5 mtrs but still big enough for an attack. There was an attack here 9 years ago right out front of the surf club.
