Anyone out there got a long range forecast on this years Hobart race and also the forecast for coffs race starting on the 2nd of Jan. Theres been some preety wild lows hitting Bass Strait wouldn't want to be there when one of them is passing thru.

A nice fresh to strong North Easter will blow all the way down to the Vic Coast when a fresh or gusty South wester pushes through Bass straight thats my guess.

At this stage it is looking like it could be a fairly calm Sydney to Hobart this year although way too far out to give any meaningful sort of forecast.

EC shows N'ly winds for the start of the race but come the next day there may be a solid wester coming through the strait.

Yeah I'm still sticking to a nice stiff North Easter on Boxing day and a wind change around the South coast of NSW or Bass straight later Saturday from the SW so nothing has changed in my book

EC still going for northerlies tending more NW later into the race and strengthening as the race progresses. Could make the going tough because that would mean headwinds as the yachts head SW.

It looks like being extra tough going for some of the smaller yachts that will take longer as quite a W'ly flow looks like developing. The larger yachts may just beat it.

I'd like to see the reminants of a good 20knt westerly on the start line for a spinakker run to the heads. Then a classic afternoon NE'ster kick in for the turn down the coast. Hopefully the Bass straight isn't too treacherous for the smaller craft. Will hook up my HF radio for the event to listen to real time traffic and wx reports and positioning.
