The Cape du Couedic wave buoy is recording some impressive wave heights at the moment, and having just had an excellent day at the beach, I am looking forward to some pretty large surf tomorrow.

25/6/02
time: Hs Hm Tz Tp
18:30 6.8 10.7 10.6 15.3
17:30 7.2 10.9 11.7 15.5
16:30 5.8 13.3 9.7 15.6
15:30 6.4 10.1 10.1 17.3
14:30 6.4 10.0 10.6 16.2
13:30 6.3 8.7 10.9 16.0
12:30 5.7 8.1 10.0 16.3

(where Hs is average height in m, Hm is maximun height, Tz is average period in seconds, and Tp is maximum period in seconds)

It has been holding out around 15-17 seconds for quite a while now - most swell episodes in the Southern Ocean will show 17 sec swell periods as 'front runners' to a larger swell with periods around 14-15 seconds. And the average heights of 7m is amazing...let alone maximum heights of 13m! eek

Might have to break out the 7'0 tomorrow smile

The Mid Coast had surf last night around 3-4ft, and this morning shows that it's dropped a tad but is very clean and glassy. The best action is down South where the swell is quite big and offshore - have a look in the Chiton Rocks region (The Dump + Bullies etc) for some very nice surf today.

Conditions will deteriorate with the passage of a vigorous cold front Thursday, but the weekend is shaping up to be superb! Large swell and NW winds smile

Ship observations at the BoM reported swell at 7m in the western Bight yesterday, and 8m off KI this morning.

Looks like it's going to get very heavy over the next 36 hrs aswell.

Large storm surf all along the SA coast today, and the KI buoy is back up around the 6-7m mark with a peak of almost 13m just an hour ago.
