Crazy shots.

I went out at Henley Wednesday morning before work for a dawn session, bloody freezing but fun wedging jetty action made it worthwhile.

For Sydney there's a huge variation between swell forecasts. Coastalwatch is going for a meager 1-2ft. Meanwhile swellnet is going for 6-8ft at the more exposed spots. It looks like someone will get it horribly wrong. There will be some decent sized waves at south facing beaches this weekend, I dont know what coastalwatch is smoking?

Craig (Swellnet) got the Sydney forecast spot on today - easy 6ft sets at super exposed south facing beaches. The Sydney buoy's on the way up this evening so it looks like tomorrow's suggested increase will eventuate too.

It wasn't overly big down here this weekend even at the more exposed locations, mostly shoulder to head high, with perhaps some overhead sets at the exposed locations. Maybe Newcastle copped the brunt of the swell as is usually the case in straight south swells. It was clean thanks to a SW'er but I couldn't find anything worth bothering about.

Real puzzling from CW :?

Anyway's it looks like some places were picking up alot of the swell while others were fairly mediocre, as is usually the case under these acute directional swells. Here's where I surfed and it was a touch bigger than 1-2ft :p

Oh and that is very solid Hunter! Did you get out anywhere??

Awesome pics Craig as always!

But WHOOOAAAA @ those pics by Clark Little!! eek absolute perfection, he really defines the word "glassy" with those shots. Insane. Must cop some punishment too.

Yeah I did, was a bit of fun had some ok banks on the higher tide.

We finally got some solid more south in direction swell down here on Sunday, glassy 4ft+ walls and plenty of options. Knights was fun wink

Some nice pics in the last few posts, good work for picking the swell to SA!

ha ha. i was so pumped for knights.. then i sussed it. and it looked a little above my ability!! was breaking really well, and about 16 people out. The wedge was working better than i've seen it recently.

but far out it looked heavy!

i went to middleton point and got some really fun 4' walls there! some of the sets were coming through were awesome. middleton is such a gentle, calm wave.

Sounds like fun stokie! Yeah Middleton gets ok when its around 4-5ft, but Cliffs and Goolwa at that size can be real fun! Long long walls and 100 duck dives after 1 wave, good fitness though :p

I'm back this weekend but don't think i'll have any time to surf. And the water would give me a rude shock over there! Went for the early this morning and although the air was freezing, when you were at the waters edge it was steamy because of the temp difference, love it laugh

I hate Middleton, such a bitch to get out, then again, I am no surfer! Prefer to catch my waves less than 1km from the shore.

I grew up at Goolwa Bodyboarding every day after school, I use to paddle out with no fins before I got some for my birthday in 1991, use to go with surfers and follow them out the back, such a mission on a Bodyboard and no fins, but use to make it out there, found my body change when started to surf Elliot, at 13yo, different paddling and way better waves, short sharp bursts of paddling like a sprint rather than long 15-20mins of getting out there, who wants to surf Goolwa and Middleton when you can get rid of your demons, pinballed and slotted for a 20sec paddle!

The east coast is pumping at the moment, swellnet says around 4 to 6 foot but i think thats an understatement i paddled out this morning it was pretty solid, coped a few on the head and also got a few screamers, will head out again tomorrow morning when swell is meant to be peaking, will try an get some photos aswell
