Unfortunately there was a large earthquake that hit Padang, where all the boats dock and leave from a few days after my travels. Padang is a big city of 1million people but they don't have the resources to deal with such a tragedy, so if you could donate to surfaid that would be great. Hopefully the town can recover fully from this tragic event, but the its geographical location means that trouble is never far away.

Here's a link to a Swellnet sessions that got published from my trip..

Also, nice setup TS, looks like a few options around that area wink

sick shots SA, looks like you had a pretty awesome trip. Those waves look so fun. Must have been pretty devastating to have just been at the scene of the earthquake.

yeah that one's of me wink nice spotting! was a nice day of waves.

Nice shot atech, very clean.

I'v been getting a few after work surfs in of late thanks to daylight savings. It's the best, I'm no longer just a weekender!

Haha, nice shot, yeah looks like a super fun session with some heavy wipeouts as well!

And I was in Padang 3 or 4 days before the quake hit, so didn't see the aftermath, wouldn't of been a good sight at all frown

Nice work Aztech, although I wish it was a right wink

I havent been out much over the last couple of weeks - the good weather has made for some ogod ab diving and the such. which has been absolute ripper, but with the return of stormy winds meant the stormy retuned - i headed to christies saturday morning and was massivley blown out so waited until around 430 then headed to brighton. was really decent size at probably 2' on the sets. waves were smashing into the jetty. really cool to see. didnt stay out too long. still good fun.

Also went out to southport for a 1' grovel last week after finishing the last exam and stayed out until we couldnt see the waves coming in anymore... good fun but came in for a fisherman to tell us that there was a 14' bronzey not too far from southport. i don't know how true it was... but yea.

Looking forward to the christmas break and spending 2 weeks down at victor.

Yep, its been absolute crap here on the east coast. Theres nothing even half appealing. I cant even remember the last time I checked the surf. Its just a typical summer pattern of 0-1ft mushburgers! Theres no end in sight. I'd love to get back into it, but it has to get good first. Hoping to get some clean groundswells this coming Autumn and Winter!!!!! Then i'll get back into it.

yeah its not worth thinking about taking a bodyboard out unless its about 3ft
if i was rich i'd buy a longboard just for something to do in summer although i did enjoy going for a bodysurf and it does help build a bit of confindence in the ocean

There were some fun ones at Curly on Monday evening. Solid 2-3ft, not the cleanest or straightest swell but plenty of punch and I got lots of fun waves in the hour or so I was out there before dark.

Been back in SA over the last couple of weeks and scored some great waves with minimal crowds shocked

First surf was a solo one at Parsons on the Tuesday before Christmas.

Clean 2ft rights into the point with a few barrles before the hoards came down a couple of hours after..

Had another session down there on Sunday morning after Christmas, again by myself for about half an hour before only 3 others paddled out over the next 2 hours and it was a solid 3-4ft and clean!

Surfed Knights that evening half pissed and that was a bit of fun and then a smaller and onshore Parsons down the beach on Monday morning.

Went to Yorkes a couple of times as well. First time was on the Tuesday before NYE, was a little too big for the beachies and too small for the reefs so I headed to reliable Pondie. There was an inconsistent 2ft+ swell running and again I lucked out with the crowds. Only 5 of us out for a couple of hours before 20+ people showed up. So I got out, sat on the board walk for an hour or two until the shift change and then scored it with only 3 out again shocked Amazing! Haha

Had to fly out Sunday afternoon back to Sydney but I knew a new swell was coming on Sunday morning so I drove over to surf until 12pm as the swell was building. The swell was an hour or two later than I expected but surfed fun 2ft Inners to myself for an hour and a half before 2 other guys walked over. Then I had a quick break and as the swell started to build and the tide dropped out it all started to come together at Tressies. The swell built to a solid 4-5ft while I was out there and it was still growing when I left but winds went SW and farked it up a bit, but I at least got an hour or two of clean 4ft'ers with only 2 others out on a Sunday shocked

Hopefully some swell back on the East Coast soon again.

Looks like SA will be pumping for the next week at least!

Oh and I found the water temp in SA not too much cooler than over here atm!

Some nice pics there, looks like you scored mate. Water temp is pretty good here, I'm going between boardies and 3/2 depending on wind.

I've had quite a few surfs of late, did a trip down the great ocean road late december, surfed a couple of decent reefs near port cambell and peterborough, so much potential over there. Also went over to yorkes last week and had a run out at chinamans, was about 3-5ft so pretty fun sized, only a few out too. Also had a cracking surf on the mid tuesday night, was about 2-3ft and well lined up with some super fun long rides at the rivermouth.

I reckon down in SA we've had an ok summer, it's been relatively consistent with plenty of fun days.

Yeah, there's some sick set ups around peterborough, that's for sure, and nowhere near as crowded as the Surf Coast, Bells/Torquay area.
And I loved heading back to Yorkes, so much fun and so many good waves, would of loved to surf Chi's though! And yeah the Mid's had waves all week, and the forecast into next week looks good as well!

Keep us posted smile

you reckon it would be worth a trip to yorkes this weekend SA? I'm considering taking monday off and having a 4 day weekend, so I could spare a few days over there. Looks like there'll be some swell coming in saturday with reasonably good winds, long way off though.

Looking very nice indeed Stokie. Just looked at the latest model runs and they've intensified that frontal system coming up to the state and also pushed in a high a little quicker than previous. This means that you'll get some great swell with great winds on both Saturday and Sunday. I would head over Friday night to make the most of it!

Looks as if the Mid didn't get to as big as I was expecting yesterday arvo. Anyone surf it or go west?? Wednesday should get bigger though, alot more west in the swell direction.

We had a large south groundswell 2 Wednesday's ago and here's some shots from around Curl Curl.

I paddled out at around 7am and it was a solid 5-6ft and then it started to pulse of 6-8ft and the sets were really consistent. Was getting a bit worried about getting back in at onse stage as we were drifting behind the cliffs/rock ledge, but snagged a big one all the way back to the beachy and in. Was so much fun!

I went out at knights sunday, the change came through very quickly though, hit at about 8am so I only had a short surf before it turned to slops. Was a pretty solid swell though, really well lined up and a fun size for knights. Must have been a bit too southerly in direction for the mid, I'll definitely be on it wednesday though.

That swell you guys got over there last week was crazy, looked huge! Hope that slightly makes up for the below average summer you're having.

oh and there's an annoying influx of blue bottles in the victor harbour area, only the second time I can remember seeing them there (first time would have been 10 to 15 years ago). Must be the warm water and onshore winds. bloody annoying and painful, copped a couple of nice stings.
