The south coast was very dissapointing on Sunday. There wasn't a great deal of swell and the wind was a consistent 30-40km/h from the NE. Meanwhile Shark Island was looking nice on the high tide. The webcam revealed offshore conditions and set waves up to double overhead. Today saw some very nice conditions down here, but work/hell meant no surfing for me. I think i've surfed once in 6months now, all of the good surf has been during the week frown

Some solid waves there Aussie.

And sorry to hear Pingtang, devo about the winds, I would of thought the south coast of all places would of seen NW winds all day, as it was further down the coast and closer to where the front was slipping across the state.

I went out at Manly for the early yesterday and paddled straight back in. It was very very solid and above my comfort level. Solid 6ft+ with some real big wash through close-outs. Was hungover still from a massive weekend in Adelaide as well which didn't help.

Disappointed about this morning through. Was looking forward to a fun surf in at least 4ft waves but the swell dropped dramatically overnight leaving very very inconsistent 2-3ft waves with the odd and more infrequent 4ft'er.

Add in 100 people of the only left hand bank worth surfing and it was pretty average. Still got some sneaky ones though smile Looking forward to the next swell..

Oh what I'd give to start my Monday mornings like that! That's that deadmans wave I guess isn't it? Looks good.

Oh well, I've found a new place which is significantly closer to surf than where I live now, about 20 mins from the mid coast and less than one hour down south, so I'm pretty happy about that!

Nah all Winki, except for the straight on shot of the empty heaving wave, thats Deadmans.

And thats great that you're closer to the surf, I love living a couple of minutes drive from the waves!

This winter has been very ordinary. Sure there's been plenty of 4-5ft south swells and one east swell, but we haven't had a huge swell event in ages! I'm becoming way too fussy these days, I haven't surfed since anzac day!

Yeah I tend to agree Pingtang. Besides the odd pulse of swell here and there, there has been nothing inbetween. I had a great trip down the South Coast over the weekend, and have had many a great surf over the last couple of months, but i'm looking for a more substantial run of waves in the 4ft+ range. This East swell for next week looks like it could be fun..

And Percy, looks like you are going to score some sick waves over the weekend. Chi's sounds like it may be a little above your level, but check our the coast further north around Daley Head, there's a fun right point that will be clean in the northerly winds (although the models are a bit iffy on the winds for the weekend).

And Pondie will be pretty messy and wind affected but is a softer option under these conditions, although it will still be fairly big. Also look around the Corner from Rhino's head smile

Thanks heaps for that Advice SAsurfa - i'll definately take it on board... I've havent been down the bottom end for yonks when there's a swell running - i normally looks for the least amount of swell so i can get some quality scuba time in! haha. but this looks good. Quite excited!

Went out at middleton (i know everyone here hates it) point on saturday and it was quite good fun! the rip was running very well so i didnt get my hair wet until second wave.. It would've averaged around three foot most of the day but lacked punch.... maybe i'm becoming picky too? i headed back to victor on sunday but didnt have my board and it looked awesome!! breaking just before the headland at knights and the reef was firing! light offshores would've made it an awesome day. oh well.. the things we do sometimes... haha.

Cheers

I reckon she's gonna be more than fun Craig. Although I see from your forecast that you weren't rating it as highly as I think it may turn out to be?? You reckon that damn sheep land mass will block out the fetch for you guys? I thought the fetch was looking mighty finely aimed straight at ya!!

Anyway, your greatest dilemma for this one is what is that Tasman low gonna do for your local winds as the E'ly groundswell makes landfall and peaks?

Haha, moving over to this forum now as well Don wink

It's still early days yet and there is plenty of room for movement, so I saw no need to go crazy on the forecast when the models were so divergent. If that low fails to develop in the Tasman during Saturday we would see nothing of significance at all from this system, but now its looking like a pretty impressive system.

Will wait and see in anticipation laugh

Hi guys, some pretty serious surf along the west coast lately, been out at Scotts Beach out the back of Fowlers Bay as well as the beaches near Cheetema west of Fowlers. Solid 3-4' with some beastly 6-8' sets breaking out the back on the reefs a long way from shore.

Then today travelled to Elliston and fished Locks Well, fair to say I havent seen size like that in a long time. Staunch 4-6' sets with the odd 8' bomb and stupendous rips. Was like Waits on a big day. Bigger 2moro, will have pics from today up later on hopefully! Nothing spesh tho.

TS cool

The east coast this winter seems to have been performing a far cry better than the south, other than the last few weeks we've had nothing.

Last weekend SA made up for it though, Knights was great, plenty of sand in the right places. I was considering taking a day off today to try and catch this swell, but it seems like it won't really hit till late in the day - tomorrow, also it looks like it will hang around untill the weekend so I may as well wait...

Been on here for a while Craig, but more of a reader than a poster.

I actually thought the models were in pretty good agreement yesterday for the development of the low out there.

Anyway, looking even better this morning, although the bl00dy devil wind looks to spoil our fun somewhat on the peak of the swell on Tuesday and Wednesday.....arrggghhh!!!!

I'm probably gonna sneak out on Monday and get the forerunners of this swell when the winds look a whole lot better.

Hope the winds are better for you guys down there.

Yeah they were both showing the low, and convergent to some degree, but different in other aspects, hence the cautious path.

But the recent model runs are looking very juicy indeed! Winds are looking like they will be fairly co-operative at this stage but lets not talk this system up too much as we may do some damage :p

Local winds up this way for next Tues/Wed are still too hard to call with GFS showing increasing devil winds, whilst EC is being much kinder!!!
