Hi all ASWA members & friends,

We announce the Mt Macedon Mad-Weather-Barbeque-Bash on Saturday 9th February from 11amish onwards..

Location: Days Picnic Ground (see map below)

http://www.stormchasers.au.com/Feb06/dayspicnicarea.jpg

Sausages, salads, bread & drinks will provided for all. A $2 donation from non members would be appreciated.

Come and enjoy the informal weatherfesting, bragging, cricket and impromtu stormchases that the day should offer.

Meet new friends, bring the family and enjoy the beauty of Mt Macedon.

Note: this barbeque will operate no matter what the weather - backup plans are in place!!!

After the barbeque (if there are no storms), enjoy coffee and cake at the Top of the Range restaurant (at own expense).

NB: Bring a warm jacket (just in case). You may also be greeted by the resident peacock or the occasional kangaroo.

Location & Directions:

http://www.stormchasers.au.com/Feb06/dayspicnicareamap.jpg
(see red cross on map)

If coming from Melbourne or south of the mountain..
Travel up the Calder Highway past Sunbury and Gisborne, turn off the highway at the Macedon / Mt Macedon turnoff (C322) and follow the signs to Mt Macedon through the turnoff and up the mountain. You will pass the turnoff to the Memorial Cross on the left as you reach the top, continue on for another 100m or so and turn right onto Lions Head Road and follow the road around to the left for just over half a km. Picnic area is on the left....

If coming from Bendigo or north of the mountain..
Turn off the Calder Highway onto C324 and turn left onto the Woodend - Romsey Road towards Mt Macedon / Hanging Rock (hint: keep going past the Hanging Rock turnoff on your left, you're not there yet). Turn right up Straws Lane/ Mt Macedon Road and follow the road up the north side of the mountain, turn left at the top (800m ASL). After a few tight corners on the way up (hint: don't speed), turn left onto Lion's Head Road and follow the road around to the left for just over half a km. Picnic area is on the left.... (if you get to the road to the Cross, you went too far)

Please RSVP to aswa_victoria@iprimus.com.au by Thursday 7th February so we can cater.

Should be there, with some stories from the American Meteorological Society meeting. Looks like the day has the potential to be meteorologically interesting.

Yeah that gazeebo experience was quite something else! I think we could have been equally as fried as the BBQ that day.

And let's just say that you get a little bit more nervous when your one of the tallest objects on the top of Mt Macedon.

I'm with you, high tea for me in the Cafe Jane smile

See ya next week smile

Looks like it's going to be the most 'comfortable' Feb BBQ we have had in recent years weather-wise!! Last year it was too hot and 'some' of us ended up resembling lobsters  , and the year before that...well, we all know what happened then!

22C for Melbourne on Saturday (at this stage), possibly a little cooler on the top of the Mt?

Can't wait, and very much looking forward to a great laugh! :bounce:

If its only going to be 22 in melbourne on saturday, i reckon you could be looking at around 13 or 14 at Days picnic area, my place, which is around 100metres lower than Days is often around 7 C lower than Melbourne in summer and nearly always 10C lower than Melbourne in Winter.
Enjoy the day

ok thanks Rikki, have been trying to find something a bit closer to the Mount. I compare my readings with Kilmore gap pretty often, we are usually 2or 3C lower than their max temps.

Wouldnt you think there would be an AWS on Mt Macedon? they seem to have them in lots of other more obscure places

Loo I would love one - split petrol money. What time??

I have plenty of storm footage from the last few weeks still to upload but will save that til after the meeting.

Looking a little more showery and if the cold air can still around there might be some graupel and hail about the mountain.
