This is my second summer working on a portfolio for next years competition and it is hard work.
I have spent hours in the bush at the back of my suburb shooting reptile portraits and the competetion is fierce in this category.
When I look at the wolf image and the birds fighting it makes it even harder as my subject matter is not exactly reknown for being exciting.
The one thing I have in my favour is it allows me to work very close, I just hope that I have something that catches the judges eyes.
Some heavy hitters enter this competition every year and you have to pull out all the stops and then prey to every known deity to have all bases covered.
Im on my 4th roll of slide and will shoot at least another 2-3 in an endeavour to shoot a cracker.
I spent the better part of two hours with one subject up a tree yesterday morning, the worst thing was not being able to get all my kit up there with me so I was having to climb up and down a number of times for different lenses and such, you learn very quickly what does and does not work on a project like this.
I was lucky my subject was very cooperative and just took one for the team.

Beautiful Willow, love the symmetry of his face.

Harlz, those shots are spectacular, especially like the last one and the lizard. Good work smile

Native bees working on the entrance to the hive. These guys are only about 2mm long and are stingless.

great shots everyone. Here's a couple of a juvenile bluetongue lizard i found while mowing my lawn, luckily i spotted him before i turned him into wormfood poke

it was quite a challenge getting a decent shot as i have only a 17-40mm lens and it will only focus down to 10cm or so.If you haven't noticed bluetongues tend to get quite aggressive when you get that close to them.

Ooo just found this thread, what fantastic pictures everyone has put up here! I'd never seen a mahogany glider, so adorable. But I think my favourite is the little shield shrimp. He looks just like a living fossil. And extra cute with his little beady eyes! Can I put in a request for more weird desert animals Desert Storm? grin
