Hello Folks:

Just saw an interesting weather graphic: As we head into December, the US currently had only 7.6% in snowcover. This is the lowest % of the US with snowcover heading into December, in the last 5 years (2016: 26.2%; 2015: 37.6%; 2014: 22.5%; 2013: 21.8%; 2012: 14.4%).
I wonder if this will mean a very mild Winter for us?
I don't want much--I just want one good snowdump.

For the week of Nov. 26-Dec. 2: Mena's Avg. Max.: 55.0F/12.7C; Avg. Min.: 33.8F/1.0C

Another totally dry & fairly warm week. I'm enjoying the unseasonal warmth while we have it. A dry Pacific cold front passed through on the 29th--the solid AM cloudcover looked promising, but nothing fell from the sky; and the clouds dissipated in the early PM hours.
Overall Low--abt. 10:55PM--listed for 29th.
Well--Hallelujah! It looks like a very, very good rainchance for this coming Monday. The approaching Pacific cold front will bring cooler temperatures for the balance of the week. I'm more-than-ready to see a good raindump.

Hello Folks:
Here's previous weeks' weather in Mena, Arkansas:

.......8..42F/5.5C...16F/-8.8C..---
.......9..51F/10.5C..23F/-5C....---

For the week of Dec. 3-9: Mena's Avg. Max.: 53.1F/11.7C; Avg. Min.: 31.8F/-0.1C

Finally had a nice raindump this past week, along with early-week warmth followed by a fair cool-down. A Pacific cold front passed through in the late PM hours of the 4th--although the thundershower line/cold front was solid, rain amounts were pretty varied in my area. The rain amount was wonderful, but not sufficient to lift the Countywide Burn Ban. A dry Canadian cold front passed through on the 7th, giving the chilliest temperatures since the early part of 2017. Overall High-12:01AM & Overall Low-around 10:55PM listed for the 5th (as temperatures slowly fell all the day; the Daytime Maximum was 46F/7.7C-around 11:30AM). Overall Low-about 11:35PM-listed for the 7th. The 7th was especially chilly as the cold front was accompanied by gusty & biting WNW/NNW winds.
Forecast for upcoming week calls for early-week warmth followed by somewhat cooler conditions & the best rainchances (30%) are for Saturday night.
The "Thomas" fire in S California has grown to 230,000 acres/359 SQUARE MILES/93,077 hectares--making it the 5th-largest wildfire in modern California history. Please pray for the good folks in California, as this has been an epic fire season there.

Hello Blair & All:

Yes, that really doesn't surprise me, as our monthly raintotals lately have fallen off the face of the earth.
For climatological Autumn/Fall (Sept. 1-Nov. 30): In that time, Mena has officially recorded 3.66"/92.9mm of rain (0.39"/9.9mm in September, 2.83"/71.8mm in October & 0.44"/11.1mm in November). I have recorded 2.85"/72.3mm rain in that span.
Mena's normal rainfall for those 3 combined months is 15.00"/381.0mm; so we've copped--officially--18% of average rainfall in that time.
Our Countywide Burn Ban (for Polk County) is the longest I've ever seen: We've been in a Countywide Burn Ban since October 12th.
Countywide Burn Bans (normally in drier summers) do happen for fairly short periods; but the dryness is so acute here that we're in a Red Flag Warning/High Fire Danger--we rarely get dry enough for these extreme warnings. Lately, even the Pacific cold fronts--normally good rain producers--have given little or no rainfall. I'm sure hoping (& praying) that we get a good raindump on Saturday. Your prayers for rain are Greatly Appreciated.

For the week of Dec. 10-16: Mena's Avg. Max.: 51.1F/10.6C; Avg. Min.: 30.2F/-1.0C

This week felt more like a late-Autumn/Fall week temperature-wise; esp. as Winter officially arrives here in the NH on the 21st. A dry Canadian cold front passed through on the 11th; the exceedingly low humidity levels afterwards, (below 20% at times) made for some good daily temperature spreads. A vortex of Low-pressure was to our South (in the N Gulf of Mexico) circulating moisture/rain over my area--the rain starting in very late PM on the 16th & lingering into early AM on the 17th. (I copped .40"/10.1mm in all from the rain event & was Thankful for every drop; was great to see/feel good rainfall again).
Forecast for upcoming week calls for good shower chances early & late-week and a fairly good cool-down by week's end; with possibly Wintry precipitation.

WoW!!! What a difference a week makes! This past week featured some good raindumps and solid cloudcover on most days; as the weather-pattern becomes more active. A Low-pressure to our south caused the early-week rain; a Warm Front passed on the 19th & the closely-following Pacific cold front passed on the 20th; another Pacific cold front (passage on the 22nd) brought the great raindump late-week (even heard a few thunder rumbles, just before 11AM on the 22nd). The 22nd was the day with the most sunshine. Was Awesome to see all the rainfall & the ground sure needed it.
The 22nd was a day of falling temperatures: Overall High-12:01AM & Overall Low-around 10:30PM--the Daytime High was 54F/12.2C at the 7:20AM sunrise. The 23rd felt like a very Wintry day--solid cloudcover, light rain & chilly NW breezes; the Overall High was at 12:01AM & the Daytime High was a very cool 38F/3.3C around 1:45PM.
Winter officially arrived here in the NH on the 21st.
Forecast for upcoming week calls for mainly dry conditions and fairly cool temperatures, becoming even colder by late-week.

Hello Steve 777 & ALL:

Well, officially Winter is less than a week old, but already some locations are getting hammered by lake-effect snowfalls.

The town of Erie, Pennsylvania (on the SE shore of Lake Erie) copped 58"/147.3CM of snow on Dec. 24th through 5PM on the 26th--this breaks the Pennsylvania 2-day snowfall record (set in 1958 when Morgantown copped 44"/111.7CM).
Of that snowdump, Erie received 34"/86.3CM snow on Christmas Day, which easily topped their 24-hour snowfall record.
So far, Erie has recorded 97"/246.3CM snow in December, making this the city's snowiest month in their history. Normally, Erie gets about 100"/254CM snow in a single season.

@Steve 777: Many Thanks for your kind wishes. I wish the same to you & your family.

Hello Wave Rider & All:

Here's previous weeks' weather in Mena, Arkansas:

DATE.......HIGH.......LOW........RAIN

.......25..40F/4.4C..25F/-3.8C..---
.......26..39F/3.8C..25F/-3.8C..---
.......27..37F/2.7C..27F/-2.7C..---

For the week of Dec. 24-30: Mena's Avg. Max.: 49.0F/9.4C; Avg. Min.: 28.1F/-2.1C

A succession of dry Canadian cold fronts--passage on the 24th, 26th & 30th--kept my area very chilly, with exceedingly much solid cloudcover (glad my area doesn't get prolonged cloudy stretches like this very often). Temperatures were made more chilly with cool WNW/NW/N/NE breezes through the week.
This was another uncommon instance where the Avg. Max. for the week was lower than the previous weeks' Avg. Min. (the Avg. Min. for Dec. 17-23 was 43.5F/6.3C, while the Avg. Max. for Dec. 24-30 was 38.8C/3.7C).
Overall Low-11:35PM-listed for the 24th; Overall Low-10:45PM-listed for the 27th & Overall Low-11PM-listed for the 30th.
Another "Non-White" Christmas for my town; the closest area of (lying) Snow to my area was in sections of NW Arkansas.
Forecast for upcoming week calls for very cold temperatures--Sunday through Tuesday will see tops well below 30F/below -1.1C with equally frigid minimums, a slight warm-up will take place by mid-week; with fairly poor precipitation chances.

Monday, December 25, 2017: Merry Christmas: Conditions at 12:01AM at Mena's Intermountain Municipal Airport: Clear, no clouds below 12,000FT., Temp.: 32F/0C; Dew Point: 21F/-6.1C; Visibility: 10 miles/16.1 kilometers; Wind: Calm; Barometer: 30.43"/1,030.5hPa.
