Hello Wonderful Friends: Heres previous weeks weather for Mena, Arkansas:

DATE.......HIGH.........LOW.........RAIN
Mar..14..62F(16.6C)...42F(5.5C)....0.20"(5.0mm)
.....15..52F(11.1C)...42F(5.5C)....0.05"(1.2mm)
.....16..60F(15.5C)...35F(1.6C).....---
.....17..76F(24.4C)...36F(2.2C)....Trace
.....18..73F(22.7C)...53F(11.6C)...2.00"(50.8mm)
.....19..73F(22.7C)...53F(11.6C)....---
.....20..75F(23.8C)...60F(15.5C)...0.05"(1.2mm)

A fairly wet week with unseasonable warmth---the avg. maximum for Mena at this time of year is 63F/17.2C. The rain was from a couple of Pacific cold fronts (passage on the 14th and 18th). A Canadian cold front passed through on the 20th.
Overall Low-abt. 11:00 P.M.-listed for the 14th; Overall Low-abt. 11:44 P.M.-listed for the 18th; Overall Low-abt. 11:58 P.M.-listed for the 20th.

The rain event on the 18th was VERY Localized as a derecho-type T-storm complex (moving from NW to SE) hit us just after 12MID; I recorded 2" when the rain ended near 1:30 A.M. Some sparse pea-sized hail fell with many close lightning strikes. Cherry Hill (comm abt. 12mi/19km East of Mena) copped 4"(101mm), I copped 2"(50.8mm), KENA radio station (abt. 1mi/1.6km to my SSE) had only 1.05"(26.6mm), and Cove (small town 15mi/24km SW of Mena) got NOTHING(NIL) from this T-storm event.
Patches of grass are really starting to get green and just about ALL trees/flowers are in full bloom. Aaaaahhhh.....SPRING!!!! It looks like T-storm season (storm chasers) is here as well.

Wishing ALL An Excellent Week!!!

Hello & Happy Easter, Fine Weather Folk!
Heres previous weeks weather for Mena, Arkansas:

DATE......HIGH........LOW..........RAIN
Apr....4..69F(20.5C)..47F(8.3C)....---
.......5..67F(19.4C)..38F(3.3C)....---
.......6..72F(22.2C)..40F(4.4C)....---
.......7..67F(19.4C)..52F(11.1C)..0.80"(20.3mm)
.......8..77F(25.0C)..51F(10.5C)...---
.......9..76F(24.4C)..51F(10.5C)..1.35"(34.2mm)
......10..65F(18.3C)..49F(9.4C)...0.80"(20.3mm)

A fairly typical Spring week--some slightly above-normal warmth with a couple of raindays. Overall Low-abt. 11:50 P.M.-listed for the 10th. Rain on the 7th was from a large, slow-moving upper-level Low; rain on the 9th was from a warm front, and rain on the 10th was from a Pacific cold front.

I experienced something for (I believe) the first time: copping hail on Consecutive Days!!! On the 9th, a severe T-storm (just after 8 PM) gave a few minutes-worth of marble-sized hail [and 1.2"/30+mm rain in 30 mins]; on the 10th, a T-shower (near 8 AM) gave a few minutes of more marble-sized hail. Mena doesn't get much hail (I only had 1 hailday in 2003), much less on 2 straight days!!! Mena is in an area of the US that averages 3-4 haildays per year.

Polk County was under a Tornado Warning for a time on the 9th as a doppler-radar indicated weak tornado was SW of Mena. I was listening to my scanner---the County Sheriff/Deputies/State Patrol--were monitoring the storm and they reported: a fallen tree across Polk County Rd 38 (Polk 38; nr Potter, just SW of Mena), debris in road on Polk 47 (just W of Mena), golf-ball sized hail at Rocky (comm a few MI W of Mena); an overturned car in Potter (comm SW of Mena); hail 1-2" deep in Nunley (comm SE of Mena). The storm appears to have split up as it crossed the mountain, otherwise the damage could've been worse. A tornado was spotted in Whitesboro, Ok (NW of Mena). I talked to a guy that I know who lives in Rocky and he said the hail destroyed the tomato plants in his garden.
You may want to see the Apr 9 Svr Wx report map:
http://www.spc.noaa.gov/climo/reports/040409_rpts.html

Hopefully we can avoid any more really nasty weather.
Wishing ALL A Superb Week!!!

G'day David,

Glad to see that you are still doing your weather reports from Polk county.
I've moved from the Hunter Valley, to my own property not very far from the NSW/QLD Border.
Here is a website of our local large town, Inverell.
http://www.inverell-online.com.au/dir205/InvOnline.nsf
I'm at a higher elevation than before, at 630m ASL / 2067Ft, and it snows just down the road at Guyra (73km away).
anyway, I just thought I'd let you know.
I have a website too, with a weathercam, if you want to know what the weather is like here, it is North-West Slopes & Plains Regional Weather & Astronomy
I hope you enjoy it !!!!

 Cheer's, Mick Cole.

Hey Fotoflash! Great to hear from you again.
I checked out those sites and they are Really Good! Thanks! Inverell looks to be a nice town with great scenery. It looks like your temps and mine are (for the time being) fairly similar.

I'm familiar with Inverell as its mentioned on the Aus Daily Extremes site and its also the birthplace of the Aussie golfer, Steve Elkington.
Yes, I've heard about all the neat snow that Guyra cops in the Wintertime.

Have A Great One & Don't be a stranger!!!
Yours~~~David Powell

Great stuff, David,
I'm glad you checked out the websites, unfortunately because of my work commitments, I'm not online as often as I'd like, but I try to get online when I can.
I hope you and your family, have a great spring and summer over there in Mena, Arkansas.

Cheer's,
Mick Cole.

P.S, I found a great old rail track so I'm going out looking for datenails over the weekend, I hope I'm lucky !!

May....1..63F(17.2C)..47F(8.3C)..0.70"(17.7mm)

A week with fairly above-average warmth with more rain on the weekend (of course...LOL!!!). The rain on Apr. 29th was from a moist SW airflow. The rain on Apr. 31-May 1st was from a Pacific cold front (passage on May 1st). Overall Low-abt. 11:52 P.M.-listed for Apr. 25th; Overall Low-abt. 11:19 P.M.-listed for May 1st.
I really need some dry days so I can mow our yard (before it turns into a hayfield...LOL). It's been so wet lately that I guess I should've planted our garden in rice!!! Thankfully, the forecasted possible flooding (Apr. 31-May 1st) never came to pass as the rain was fairly steady---our mountainous topography drains water fairly quick anyway. The upcoming week is forecasted for a nice warming trend with unseasonable warmth and not much in rainchances.

Have A Great Week Everyone!!!

Hello Awesome Friends! Heres previous weeks weather in Mena, Arkansas:

......7...80F(26.6C)...58F(14.4C)...---
......8...85F(29.4C)...61F(16.1C)...---

A dry and warm week. This was our first totally dry calendar week of 2004. I recorded 9 dry calendar weeks in 2003--Jan. 5-11, Jan. 19-25, Jan. 26-Feb. 1, Mar. 2-8, Mar. 23-29, May 25-31, Sep. 14-20, Sep. 21-27 and Sep. 28-Oct. 4th.
*=The 38F morning minimum on the 3rd was a Record Daily Low--breaking the prev rec min of 40F(4.4C) on that date in 1954.
It's been so mild that I even saw the first lightning bugs of the year on the night of the 5th. There is a more humid feel to the air as we are almost at the point of the year where we are dominated by the 3H's (Heat, Haze, Humidity).
The week was mostly cloud-free until the 8th as a ridge has camped out over us. It looks like the ridge will finally allow some better T-storm chances later on this week.Around this time of year--and through Summer--cold fronts have a fairly hard time making it this far south.

Wishing ALL A Great Week!!!
Best Wishes~~~David Powell

A week with a cloudy, showery pattern---a complete opposite of the previous week. The rain on the 11th was from an upper-level low (which passed to our South). The rain on the 12th-14th was from a very slow-moving Pacific cold front (passage on the 14th). The air had a very humid feel to it as the S/SW breezes are transporting copious amounts of Gulf of Mexico moisture over our area. Overall Low-abt. 10:12 P.M.-listed for the 13th; Overall Low-abt. 11:03 P.M.-listed for the 14th. Although the last few days had rain, overall we are below normal on rain so far this month. This next week looks for warm temps (max in the low-80sF/26+C) with very little rainchances.
It's a Wonderful time of year as the air is permeated with the smell of blooming honeysuckle vines and other flowering plants (it smells great virtually all over town).

Have A Great Week!
Best Wishes~~~David Powell

Hello Again, Wonderful Friends! Heres previous weeks weather in Mena, Arkansas:

......19..82F(27.7C)...69F(20.5C)..---
......20..83F(28.3C)...67F(19.4C)..---
......21..84F(28.8C)...67F(19.4C)..---
......22..84F(28.8C)...69F(20.5C)..---

Another dry week as a Huge ridge is controlling the conditions in our area. Cold fronts usu don't make it this far south now, and our rain is supplemented by heating showers---there have been showers in parts of Arkansas, but they've missed us. Every day this week started off cloudy, giving way to humid p/c or mostly sunny PM hours. The rainstorm track around the Northern perimeter of the ridge--the so-called "Ring of Fire"--has brought persistent storms (tornadoes) and flooding to parts of Kansas, Nebraska, Minnesota, Iowa, Illinois, etc.
We do have clouds and humidity, just nothing to trigger them off into showers. The outlook for next week calls for warm max temps (85+F/30+C) and minimal rainchances. We are being more and more controlled by the typical 3H's (heat/haze/humidity---although not much haze yet) as there is more of a Summertime feel to the air.

Wishing ALL A Great Week!!!
Yours~~~David Powell

Hello Friends! Heres a few websites which may interest you:

Here is a map of the US with various weather features depicted daily:

For daily US Severe Weather Reports:
http://www.spc.noaa.gov/climo/ (Click on text of daily report, and you'll get a graphic depiction of that days' severe weather events [tornado, hail, wind] scroll down for text portion of the reports; at bottom, you can enter YYMMDD [ex. 000731=July 31, 2000] for archived data).
