it makes me sick when weather reporters make comments such as a "beautiful warm spell - fingers crossed the rains keep away". yeah, tell me about it  . And its not just weather reporters, its almost everyone which makes it more embarassing.

Only city people. Those who know that no rain means no water don't carry on like that.

This is worst than 2002 by far Don't we all love the warm weather, as long as it's not 42 as it does get. That 25~30 degree weather is good to get as long as the rain comes with it, 25mm a week would be good if it was like that. But the flip side is this being one of the driest winters, has also been one of the best seasons we have ever seen. It's been good not getting around in 6 inches of mud and s***. We started silage on Wed last week and we have only ever started once in September and that was in the last week. We have that much grass we need to get it into storage.

Well I hope it doesn't rain/storm here between the 7th and 16th of October, as I'll be up in Cairns and I'll miss out on it (well it would be more "tragic" to miss out on a storm than rain). Though luck is on my side because no more than 2.4mm has ever fallen when I have been on holidays, no matter what length of holiday I've been on.

We need 300 mm + over a 2 week period to give a 10% lift in our water storages.
Would we need +1000mm over a 3 week period to fill our dams?

The lack of Sydneysiders on this thread proves that we've faired well with regards to rainfall throughout winter and much of September to date. However, we had a shocker Autumn... so we deserved a little excitement from awesome rain events both in June and September, and thunderstorm events on two instances during August (the first one generating a coastal tornado over La Perousse and the second one producing hail coverings over the CBD on the 15th). 2006 in North Turramurra started off OK (including the Sydney Flash Flood event of 26th Feb... 24mm in 15 minutes and a 3 hour total of 62.6mm here), but our Autumn was the worst Sydney's North Shore has ever seen. Come the 2nd June, we had received 260.6mm throughout the year, against the historic Turramurra average of 706.8mm... just 37% of the average. Autumn alone was even worse... just 54.8mm recorded, less than 13.3% of the avg. Welcomed and substantial coastal rains during June (totalling 77.6mm for the initial week) provided some relief, alongside our first above avg month since November 2005 producing 79mm (July). August 4th provided 30mm, but then a prolonged dry spell occured. Then, the September rains came!!! And WOW weren't they awesome! 174.6mm to date during September to date, which is 246.6% of and 103.8mm above the Turramurra avg of 70.8mm. The grass is lush and green, the flowers are out, waterfalls continue to gush in the bush and Spring is definately in the air! Now bring on October! But I believe it's now the Victorians and South Australians turn for some decent and much needed rains. Fingers crossed for Adon, Osprey and others. Steve

I'm puzzled by the radar. Everyone's being lukewarm about it, even the BOM, but it looks big'n'green. Is it just virga? Huge gusty winds and dust and stuff... isn't all that green some rain?
I can't believe it's mid September. this is just nuts.

Yes this weather is nuts, and yet it is not even the Equinox yet. Seems like it will be full on summer by the Equinox when in reality spring should only just begin.
As for rain, the models are starting to indicate a substantial spring type rain event around Thursday/Friday next week. Lets hope at least something like it happens.
