Had a nice chat with the old guy out at Logan Brae apple orchard on Shipley on Friday afternoon - he would have been happy to talk for hours about the weather, especially to 3 level feet of snow they had 40 old years ago. with snow drifts right up to the roof of the shed.
What could be better - a fresh crisp apple straight off the tree, a working shed full of old equipment & an old digger remembering the good old days of epic snow falls. Gotta happen again sometime wink

Just for anyone heading along Bells Line of Road. There's been a truck roll over along the darling causeway, the truck is on fire with a passenger trapped.

Don't know how bad it is, but it doesn't sound to good.

Yeah, heard all of that commotion whilst at Lithgow yesterday but thankfully I wasn't near the accident. Didn't have time to do much photography yesterday but did capture this one.

Old Shed

Would be nice to head back there closer to sunset for better shadows. I like the look of EC later in the week too, simply because it looks like it 'should' for autumn more than anything else.

Great stuff Blair. The interface between atmosphere and terrain is certainly intriguing, from the fundamental to the unique.

I guess one of the more dramatic examples around these parts is the way a genuine, shallow southerly buster begins as a weak front and benign ridge, rounds the corner at the border and interacts with the resident air mass to become 50kt winds. Brilliant, but we haven't seen a real good'n for a while IIRC. Maybe next summer. Bring on the strong, penetrating fronts for now. laugh

Got asked by a journo yesterday what the prospects were for the 2007 ski season in Sydney and Melbourne. I was able to respond quite confidently that there will be no skiable snow in 2007 in either Sydney or Melbourne smile

That's very realistic of you! Most of the rest of us are in a blind and baseless state of optimism at this time of year when it comes to snow prospects. laugh

Yeah, we can't help ourselves. I sit here with an all knowing nod, convinced it will be a cracker. Still, I've got the Fountain Model to back me up - first release to the public actually and no doubt the last...

The crucial aspect to an accurate reading from this model is the amount of sauce used on the pie the night before - not to mention you need a nervous, twitchy hand to get the spin right. The Centrifugal Factor comes into play here. I've found this model does better than GASP for sure.

hahah Blizz! You really are a classic sometimes!

Personally, i cannot wait until winter kicks in and we get consistent (Hopefully more consistent than last years shocker, which im confident it will be) snow outbreaks. Looking forward to chasing some mountain flakes and staying the night in a tent, good fun! heh. Just gotta love that fresh cold mountain air, cant beat it! Hoping for an early season BT's campout with some mates and waking to snow everywhere. Good old Polblue camping ground, 1500m laugh . mmmmmm

(A very excited and pumped for the snow season. Bring it on!) Shane

Thanks guys. Pretty much sums up my life this thread. Work then tennis then sit around thinking about storms and snow...oh, and pies of course. I need to 'sauce' the references for that model above as its a 'Fountain' of knowledge for sure. I'm working on a 'pie' chart to render some of the details more accurately.

On the current weather, I am looking forward to the frontal systems over the next week. Its great seeing the warmth in the prefrontal stuff and then the cirrus move in and then the blow. Lovin' it. cool

Blizz
PS: Oh and I've picked up the monopoly on things weather in the BMs with this new domain name below. wink Just using it as a pointer at this stage.

yeah thats right blizz, we all love prefrontal warmth and then a good blow to back it up!

im liking what fountain is saying blizz, and the 'no added salt' on the bottle surely makes a big difference when snow is concerned!

Awesome to see some of the white stuff falling there 'Newts! My dad has just come back from a few weeks on the South Island of NZ and got a few snow falls at his camp (750m ASL)

Started today off with lunch out at the woodfire pizza place in Hartley. I can honestly recommend this place to anyone who passes through and I'd urge you to stop and have a taste, just beautiful!

Then we decided to stop at Zig Zag and have a look. We fluked by arriving about 10 minutes before the steam loco was due to leave, so not having done the trip since over 10 years ago, decided to jump on and travel the Zag. It was great in the cold weather, the mist and drizzle to ride one of the great civil engineering feats in the Mountains.

I've got some photos, but unfortunately won't have them up for a few days.

'Twas a great day!

 Will
