So glad you started this thread IW. I have been trying to figure out who these people are for months (and I'm a local). I prefer radio to TV.

I enjoy the informative presentations of both, they present detailed graphical displays with understandable yet indepth meterological content, plus realistic forecasts without any Jounolistic Media Hype or Policy constraint from BOM/Govt guidelines.

Either way - they are much better Weather reports than those rediculous reports seen on national programs like Sunrise, that have a blone bimbo placing pretty pictures of sun or cloud on an Australian map along side a top temp. Many of those shows seem to have done away with the synoptic maps alltogether, and IMHO they are thus a waste of time.

Yes, Windee, those morning 'weather' presentations are a joke. The weather is merely a vehicle for what ever promotion the networks wish to push. I would hate to be an overseas vistor looking at nine's weather map and trying to figure out where's where. With its temperature squares so ridiculously big it covers the map with no place names of where the tempeartures are to be - not to mention the absence of a synoptic chart. 'Oh, we don't want to explain this do we'. The dumbing down of the weather on TV is why forums such as this have become so popular.

I'm glad at least up north there are blokes like Burnsie and Livio who know a bit about what they're talking about.

None of these guys are a patch on A Weather Woman.

Burnsie leaves Livio for dead! I agree with RD. Livio is a playschool presenter of weather. His mafia style presentation is also off-putting.
Burnsie knows the local area very well. His knowledge of weather is excellent. Livio doesn't seem to fully analyse the synoptic situation with as much depth as Burnsie.

"Hi, my names Burnsie, and here's the bloody weather, if don't like it, tough sh*t. Goodnight"

Now that's the impression i get every time i watch a weather report from 'The Great Man' :p

Yes Mark Hardy livio worked for The Bureau in Brisbane before being aksed to present the weather for Sunshine coast local 7 news.
He does not work with the bureau anymore.
And as some people have made3 a comment on him being too simplistic, as it stands there are a lot of people out there that hate weather jargon and they wont the most simplistic explanations, that is what he offers because he has been asked to offer this.
He is a very clever man and i am not saying burnsie is not, but as far as i believe livio should be commended on his abilities and attributes to local weather forecasting.

Quite a hypocritical comment considering you were critising and bad mouthing someone yourself. Your statement may or may not reflect who you are, my comment wasn't a personal attack at all. I simply felt it was an unsubstantiated, ignorant and disrespectable remark.

If you would like to express an opinion I'd really love to hear you elaborate on why you feel Livio has a 'Mafia type presentation'.

smile

I actually love the way Livio presents, he always explains the situations or what is going on, whether it be storms not reaching the coast because of "weak steering winds in the upper atmosphere" or general marks on a weather map. Reason he may seem "playschool" to a few of you is because it seems to be the only way for the people in public who know s**t all about weather can understand, and I think he does a great job of explaining everything. As for burnsie, well I only see tiny segmants of him of a night time and he does seem to know what he's talking about as well. Just surprised me a few people disliked ole Liv that's all!

In all honesty I think they are both extemely knoweledgeable presenters, the only difference that I truly notice is that while I only happen to catch Burnsie once or twice through the week and generally take his predictions as gospel, Friday inevitabley comes around and I've usually had a couple/few arvy beers and it is then that Mr Livio comes to life for me and delivers the weekend forecast in a format I can understand. I love 'em both! laugh

I can't believe so many seemingly inteligent people come home at night and sit in front of a moron machine (TV). I get all the weather & news I need from the radio plus a session on this forum. Whoever this Bumsie and Lavio are they will never be legends like Nitso, ITN, RW, RD, Mick10 etc. You would be amazed how enriched your life would become if you had the guts to drop the TV set from a great height and forget about it.

If i may add i think Livio and burnsie are both great but my personal favourite presenter would have to be graham creed from the weather channel, he is not always presenting these days though which is a shame, although he is still heavily involved with the weather channel and from time to time he will present the weather.

Just checked on a DVD I had on Cyclone Larry done by Win News and it had that Burnsie(Peter Burns) has been a weather forecaster for over 37 yrs and has tracked 140 Cyclones. I think I would say he knows what he is talking about.
