OK guys & gals, my first thread.

What would each of you put into your very own Cyclone Emergency Kit? We'd like to see some obvious items, but to add a little humour - add some fun items as well, keeping it fairly clean of course

I'm currently working on mine, but can't wait to see everyone else's ideas!

OK here goes:
Masking tape (for the windows, not the wife)
Radio
Fresh Water
Tinned Food
First aid kit
Liquid Nitrogen (to snap-chill the bourbons)
Esky (to keep all the Barra I pick up off the street down in Cullen Bay due to tidal surge!!!)

There's nothin' like baked beans in that cramped up little cyclone proof area of your house.

Most important thing ! Put sand bag in your dunny, unless you want crap all through your house.

Hope your right Max.........A lot of people i work with are talking about the 30 year cycle and we all know what happened 30 years ago ?

Hmm canned food, bottled water documents etc etc
*Dog & Cat Food - although after a decent cyclone I doubt i would see the cat again...
*Digital Camera - for those eyewall snaps!
*Tarpaulin
*Portable stove
*Laptop and webcam - No cyclone gets my laptop!! Plus I can while away the time playing solitare. I can use the webcam to broadcast my face closeup in terror - ala Blair witch project!
*Mobile phone
*Wheels magazines
*A pack of cigarettes - I gave up yonks ago but given the circumstances..

* First aid kit naturally. Yeh I know its boring, but necessary.
* Mobile phone, portable radio,phone numbers.
* Walkman & a couple of MP3 CDs.
* Fill the bathtub, drinking vessels + esky full of other refreshments & munchies.
* Batteries, a couple of buckets, (toot paper) torches, porta gas, candles & lighters for the intimite snuggles in the cubby hole with 2 stinking wet border collies.
* Food supplies & not forget the can/bottle opener this time.
* Digital camera and all batteries charged & empty flashcards! Yeh & the laptop.

*Solid pair of shoes! Not into walking through debri & broken glass. And some warm clothing as you tend to get cold quickly when very wet.

* Wet weather gear, so can go jumping puddles later on. That should do for starters.

Reminds me to throw out the rusty old cans of food in the pantry and start afresh.

Oh and one of those crazy american journalists that have access to stand out in the middle of the cyclone, while the eye wall crosses over

Can't believe only a few have mentioned Beer!!! Only 1 has mentioned smokes... c'mon guys, a little more creative would be nice.

Don't like the chances of your mobile phone being of much use if there has been a really good blow, phone towers may not be standing & power supply could be a problem...it amazes me that people always go for canned food, when its the fresh food that will be hard to get, bread & milk for instance, I remember one cyclone that caused a bit of a problem with no power for a day or so and flooding, the locals were very unpleasant to us in the bakery when we couldn't supply them with FRESH bread, cakes etc ( my after school job)... I highly recommend a good little radio so that you can enjoy the radio announcers giving all the updates & listen to that fabulous warning noise they use before the weather update; some good strong rope or fencing wire even, so that you can go outside & tie down the roof or even the whole house if it starts to rock & roll; plenty of towels, saucepans, buckets, icecream containers etc to catch all the water that comes in every crack or through the light fittings;kitty litter & tray, you may be surprised, the cat'll find the best dry spot long before the TC hits, and it may be your bed!

The only xtra things I would add other than all the sensible basics that everyone has listed, is that I would be wearing my motorcross armour, motor bike helmet, steel capped boots, leather jacket and cordura trousers. If I can survive hitting trees at high speed, I can not see a cat 4 cyclone being a worry. And since I live 30 metres from the shoreline, I will have my diving gear handy just in case a storm surge causes me to have to take a dip in the ocean.
