Looks like Boulia's run has come to an end today. Blair, although the max temp was not recorded on the 24th, the 3pm temp that day was over 100F. Redundant anyway given the record was not yet under serious threat. Strong WA heat and it won't change until the TC dies off or heads south, easterlies for a few days yet

Very glad to be escaping Sydney's woeful summer, was in Perth until the 29th, so got to enjoy everyone of those hot days that were forecast (Rottnest was beautiful by the way). Arrived in Kalbarri on Sunday to very strong southerly and a rather cool(but humid) 29c, however yesterday the easterly blew all day and we got to a top of 43.1c!! Today we have strong NE'er blowing and according to my weather station it's currently 35.1c, so another hot one on the way, but i don't think we get as hot as yesterday at this stage.

You must have arrived early in the day to have a lovely cool 29, the overnight lowest temp was a bit over 25; and you forgot to mention it topped (officially) 41.3 on Sunday, it got to 44.2 at my place. Hey, if you're staying a few days you might get a taste of Iggy while you're here, although I think it will only be about the same strength as it was on Sunday - North Island at the Abrohlos was gusting to around 40 knots in the evening.

Enjoy this cooler morning while it lasts, they're calling 40 for today and it usually gets a degree or three higher. Bit of a warm one last night too, wasn't it? It was still 34 on my thermometer at 9pm.

Well I'm ecstatic to have to eat my words, lol, it only got to 39 today. And now there are thunderstorms overhead, so hopefully we'll get a bit of rain to cool things right down.

We arrived around sundown on the Sunday, so missed the heat of the day, however Monday more than made up for that with 43c. Quite enjoyed watching Tuesday afternoon's storm from the Red Bluff lookout, just a shame only a couple of mm came from it. The humidity yesterday morning was nothing short of horrific, felt a bit Darwin like. We've now moved on to a another great spot called Ledge Point(just south of Jurien Bay).

It looks like the heat may be off now. A huge bank of mild air set to infiltrate the country in about a week's time and then likely to persist for some time. Next thing we know it will be March and the continent will be cooling down due to lower levels of solar radiation.

Yes Coldsnap, just noticed that Alice Springs is cooling down to the low teens at night next week. Could be the start of Autumn already, no doubt a few hot spells to come but certainly peak heat (apart from maybe SW WA) has passed imo.

Just when you think central australia is cooling down, up she goes again! Alice looking likely to have an extended run of heat over the next week at least.

Low temperatures persist here, since the first day of December.
Daily max temp anomalies were -4.6 for December, -3.7 for January, and now -4.7 for the first 13 days of February. (Relative to decade from March 1999.)
It will be interesting to see whether a return to warmer days comes with a rush, or slowly, or not at all.

Yes, certainly a warmup for the interior, so summer could yet have a sting in the tail for the SE. The window for extreme heat rapidly closes at the end of February though. Stretches of 30C-35C heat are still possible in March, like Adelaide in 2008 (interestingly, happened in a weak La Nina and cool Sydney summer).

Wow Tasman Island (near Port Arthur) is 28C already! 38 deg definitely seems possible for Hobart, the inversion hasn't broken in the CBD just yet.

Wow @ GFS. Amazing how quickly the heat (or what's left of it anyway) gets decimated and becomes replaced by cold. There is no more heat trough.. haven't seen a 'summer' like this before, usually the heat trough prevails across the western inland for months, but there has hardly been any build up..

Some amazing diurnal ranges around Hobart today, 8.3/38.4 at Bushy Park and 6.8/36.8 at Grove. Temp may well go up a bit yet. 37.5 and 37.7 are the maxs to date at Hobart and Hobart Airport to date, so the BOM was right to go long on heat.

West Coast heating up. Max here so far is 42.2 degrees. Not bad for 9 days into Autumn.

I'm totally envious CAC!!! I was on the west coast for the end of January heat wave, so i can't complain, but it's still really tempting to just jump on plane for heat/sun fix! I love the west coast climate, just a shame it's so far from all the family in Sydney.

I know March is still very much summer in SW WA, but still quite impressive. In the east the window for 40C heat has well and truly passed (I hope).
