Hi everyone,

Great site!

I have been reading through the many weather and lightning forums with an emphisis on my favorite subject, lightning. I have always loved a good thunderstorm and now I try and capture them in images when ever I can.

I noticed the May 14th storm generated some wonderful images from members from the hills to the beach and I though I'd start my first post with an image or two from that evening. Taken with a Canon 400D using a sigma 18-125 lens at 18mm.

I look forward to learning more about weather/photography and hopefully sharing a few images and experiences along the way.

Regards
Andrew

I very flattered you guys, especially given the terrific stuff I have seen in here to date.

TS, I'm a bit worried about the "GUN" tag, I'm so new to all this and learning everyday that I don't feel anywhere near that level.

That said, it is encouraging and will keep me trying my very best for the next storm.

Leads me to a question, if I may, can we expect any lightning through winter?

Thanks for taking the time to post and view.
Andrew

Welcome Andrew.... great photos, that night was a reasonably difficult one to shoot given the amount of rain that blasted through with it! WELL DONE!

I too have seen them before somewhere...

What is your location Andrew? Looks like Nth Haven

Cheers,
Dave

Thanks again for the warm welcome, glad to be in a place with lots of Adelaide and Austrlain storm chasers.

Paul there are a couple of places where you may have spotted the first picture, as Helen said, it's on POTN. It was also published in the Saturday Advertiser, I didn't send in as I felt they would have been inondated with pictures. My old man asked for the image and sneakily sent it in!

I'm glad he did now because it's been a fun ride since, sold quite a few to people who contacted the Advertiser and also struck a deal with a picture framing company who has the product already in print stores at Westfield Marion and elsewhere by now.

It seems I'm experiencing some beginners luck thanks to my old man.

Yes Dave, well spotted, it's North Haven and the reason rain was not a big issue is the camera was in my upstairs bedroom with the doors to our balcony open, enabling me to keep shooting.

Can't wait to post more stuff in here and learn more about when the weather is coming.

Regards
Andrew

The setting for the first shot is below, the other two were similar. No.3 was my first attempt a merging two ok shots taken within second into one shot (in photoshop). The first two shots were single bolts and not several strikes occuring during the 20sec exposure.

Hope that helps and again thanks for the welcome.

Thanks for the thumbs up Paul, it's been a very interesting and rewarding project. They are keen for me to do another but as I'm sure your aware, it's very hard to create breath taking images.

I got lucky with that one in some many different ways.

I have manged to sell about 40 of those framed prints via the local pub! (see above about "lucky")
