Yeah MC the wind sheer through the area is really quite impressive, could be a few rainwrapped tornado's, front should provide enough forcing to making up for the low cape and LCL's are very low.

Can't seem to access any of the stations in more southern areas for whatever reasons, Rotness island 106km now, still a short while before the front hits. (Perth that is)

I'd be expecting reports of tornado damage from tonight. As MC Thomas mentioned above the conditions are ripe, shear is very impressive and most importantly (often lacking with the high sheared cold front setup) is some reasonable CAPE and seeing the results, lightning tracker does not lie. Lots of fresh convective cells co:ntinuously regenerating along the front. Also some intense cells ahead of it which could also have tornado potential.

TS cool

Front just about to hammer rottnest island now. Wind starting to amp now. Recon 20 minutes and Perth will .start to get the full force of this system.

Has there been any precedents for this extraordinary type of weather in south western Aust? I have never heard of it. It appears to me to be completely out of character.

Heavy and lightning active cell just ahead of what looks to be the front heading straight for Perth. Interesting to see what happens when these hit the coast

Very unusual for Perth to get these systems as strong. In saying that we had some very unusual lows from the north through summer as well
Ocean temps are also very high?
Maybe ask someone who knows about this stuff!!! Very weird.

Lots of talk of 'green lightning' on facebook and wa forums. Heard on wa forums ten green flashes in ten seconds, south side of Perth apparently. Sounds like crossing powerline wires and damage to transformers. Could be some seriously strong localised straight line winds or tornado even.

A tweet as one 1 min ago 'twister off ocean reef' hard to sort fact from fiction atm but quite few reports of damage coming in

Pretty wild outside at the moment. Lots of gusts and plenty of rain. Love it.

Gotta go to work at 4am though, roads might be messy..

Seems as though these reports are bogus, a simple rumour gone viral on social networks. Green flashes do seem legit though,

109km at Cape Naturaliste, highest so far it seems.

Sounds like a wild night for the SW and Perth. Tried to find any news on tornadoes but only got some old stuff. Anyone hear of anything.

Another nice little front heading for Perth Tuesday. So far Perth has had 102 mm rain and average is 182mm.
Hopefully will be close to that by the end of month.
Enjoy the sun today as the rest of week looks rather wet.
