Well the front is lookign a lot better this morning and the BoM are now calling it a strong front. As well as forecasting rain periods with moderate to heavy falls! Looks as though the front is dragging down some tropical moisture while it is looking at reaching its peak close to when it reaches us so could be quite good after all. Looks as though GFS might be right afterall, I should have more faith in it, it does seem to be correct more often than not.

Theres already a nice looking line of showers about 100km of the coast, should be a good afternoon smile

Well the total for Perth for July is now sitting at 47.2mm and with fairly dismal outlooks for the remainder of July it looks as though we will come close to, if not breaking the lowest rainfall for July record which is 61.5mm, which was set way back in 1876! the first year of records for Perth! all this after about a decile 9 May and June! talk about going from one extreme to another. I just hope August delivers some good rains otherwise we wont be looking very good at all by the end of winter.

yeah its almost spring like at the moment, nights around 10C and days in the low 20's, it is rather nice though I would like to get some more rain, we have just missed out on the lowest July currently sitting on 62mm for the month, though I dont think it will get much higher than that.

and yes, see you all at mine on Sunday for the ASWA meeting! smile

The good thing about the rainfall is we are still above average by over 20mm for this time of the year so as long as we get the 130 something mm next month we should be ok or get a month with above average rainfall again.

There are showers forecast for today????
and next week

FORECAST:
A shower or two with lengthy fine periods today and light to moderate W'ly
winds. A few showers tomorrow with fresh W/SW winds.

TODAY'S TEMPERATURE: Maximum: 20
TOMORROW'S TEMPERATURES: Minimum: 9 Maximum: 19
TODAY'S UV INDEX: 3 [MODERATE]

The overnight minimum was 10.8 at 0027 hours

A shower or two is expected today in a westerly airstream but there should be
lengthy fine periods.
A cold front should move through Perth on Friday with gusty winds and some
showers expected during the day.
The weekend is forecast to be fine with light winds.

MEDIUM RANGE FORECAST FOR PERTH FOR:
Saturday : Fine. Min: 6 Max: 20
Sunday : Fine. Min: 6 Max: 21

just hope the dam levels go up more and do not drop or we could be facing a water shortage sooner

The lengthy fine periods for today are about a day long I think! not much anywhere around the south-west today. Was a few drops around the place overnight, but that'll be it till tommorows front I would imagine.

The dams aren't going too bad, about 4GL going in last week. Still over 10GL better off than last year as well. follow their progress here:

It really feels like spring right now, every now and then you feel that bight from the sun back. My old man thinks i am a genius because i predicted this, that is, a very dry July. I said as soon as the tropical infeeds stop, and they will at some stage the rainfall figures will plummet. We would have recieved at least 80% of this years rainfall from a tropcial infeed i reckon.

If you look at a usual winter setup this would have to be one of the driest "normal winter" setups ever. We have had very few tradiontal cold fronts and cold pools.

If you take a look at the charts they are slowing starting to have a west coast trough forming late next week, not as far south as Perth but It's not good to see in late July eek

Even the cold fronts next week look weak and we only look like getting the northern edge, maybe 10mm at best

So does that mean that the rain will stop from now onwards that could be disastrous if we get no more this year i mean isn't september the last high rainfall month 80mm.

I hope the highs weaken sothe cold fronts can get to us!

if we don't get more rain this year we could be facing a water crisis

Very warm in Perth at the moment, currently 23.6C and still going up, definitely feels like spring out there at the moment and its still 1 month away!

Wont last too long though, fairly decent front due tonight, which will deliver some 'rain periods' to perth, which sounds good smile hopefully the totals are good too.

SWW out for the lower south west for the strong winds with the front, already picking up a bit, rotto up to 30knots and 46knots at cape leeuwin

Hey JJ, washing your car, but its gonna rain tonight?! laugh smile

It was the second driest July on record, just missing out on the driest, which was 61.5mm back in 1876, we got 62.8mm! August better be better, I dont think we will be in the running for the driest, should blow away that record tonight, the driest August is only 11 odd mm.

You planning on chasing tonight JJ?

With the dewpoints, I noticed the airport got down to a DP of -6C thats dry! hopefully this isnt bad news for tonights front.
