Hi all
Have started this thread to cover general day to day events around Perth and the rest of WA.

This morning very cold in Perth. 0.6 at the Metro site and -0.9 at Jandakot AP. A good frost is evident on the Carine open Space grass and quite crunchy underfoot.

Yeah it was a frosty one for sure. I went for a bit of frost chase this morning smile Saw some patches where even the soil was frozen solid, though only the top few mm. No frost at my place, though we are a bit higher than the surrounding area, only got a min of 2C.

I had a rock solid layer of ice on my car this morning. I tried to clear it with my windscreen wipers but they were frozen to the windscreen! Never seen that before smile

Jandakot got to -1.5 right? Thats impressive.

Yeah -1.5 at Jandakot was the coldest in the metro area though the coldest in the SW was -2.7C at wandering closely followed by -2.6C at Bridgetown. Both of these just missing out on a record by about 0.3C. It should be almost as cold tonight as well so should see some more sub zeros around the SW tonight.

It got to a balmy 4.2c here laugh
It's a lovely morning, it might only be about 11c at 11am but because there is no wind it feels a lot warmer than that outside

Heard a report on ABC news at 10am that snow had been reported falling out near Norsesman somewhere this morning.

1C is the forecast for Perth tonight now...

Edit: Noresman is about 270m asl and they did report some light rain this morning with a temp of around 4C so it is likely

I think as soon as i said it was a lovely day a freezing Se'ly wind increased and scattered Sc popped up everywhere. Now it's bitterly cold and cloudy, but i should have expected this, this is a tyipcal day when a high ridges in and we get Se'ly winds. It's normally interesting actually, when a high ridges in and winds turn Se'ly you often see cloud clear the west coast, but a layer of Sc or St remains south of the ranges. Then when winds turn further east it's clear everywhere

More on that report of snow 'near' Noresman, this from the ABC site:

Quote:
Reports of snow in WA Goldfields
The weather bureau says it has received reports of snow falling on Western Australia's Goldfields.
Senior meteorologist Bruce Buckley says a truck driver travelling near the Lake Johnson nickel mine, 120 kilometres west of Norseman in the State's south, reported seeing snow falling early this morning.
Mr Buckley says although snow is unusual in the area the conditions last night were perfect.
"We've looked back through the charts and the conditions that were prevailing at the time conducive to well, what we'd actually call sleet, which is a mixture of snow and rain," he said.
"It occurs when you have air temperatures in the order of two or three degrees, a slight breeze and that's exactly what was occurring in that part of the world in the early hours of this morning."

Another frosty one for Perth and the SW, even had frost on my roof this morning, looked quite cool smile

Noresman has recorded an hourly temp of -4.1C which means they might have gone even lower, must be close to a record for them and possibly even the state?

Now isn't this just the problem with Perth's day to day weather.

Wake me up when something actually happens, will you? (But I am enjoying the sunshine...)

Yeah Vinny it seems like ages since we've had rain but it has only been a week, I was getting so use to the regular rain of June and May. July isnt looking too good rainfall wise only 18mm and we are almost half way through the month, we should get a little bit during the week but not much more than 10-15mm I think.

Yes, some impressive lows around the state this morning, -3.9 at Collie East, -3.5 at Southern Cross (both hourly readings so may have got lower). The Perth Metro site recorded 0.2 ..

I was going to go for a frost chase but the car was iced over so not much point smile

very interesting to see the oceanic effect on Rottnest island: Sub-zero temps in Perth Metro, 0.2c in Perth city eek while Rottnest island has 10.8c! Quite incredible.

Btw, how does Perth city get such low mins when Melb city aws hasn't recorded such values for years, regardless of how clear and still it is?
