I know nothing about cloud structers so my question is. Is this cloud anything special or, just a cloud.

In the context of Weather photography and this forum I have to agree with you. But I don't mind some 'artistic' variations now and then. Depends if it's done well or not.

I've been accused before of 'faking it' and 'cheating' for even using Polarising Filters and 'Time Exposures' for lightning and moonlight pictures. I personally feel offended and angry when i get that. It's just stupid. Of course it's not exactly as the human eye sees it. But does it always have to be.

What about 'stitching' into panoramas or Infra-red or B/W as W'nut pointed out.

Take the same shot on several different brands of film (and / or cameras) and they will all have slightly different biases too. And our brain actually compensates out alot of the ultra-violet (blue) light seen in shadows whereas film will record it as it is - with a blue bias which is then usually 'corrected' in the final image to make it look real.

And then there's the green cast you get in the sky in night time shots (from sodium vapour streetlights). Leave it as is or adjust it out so it looks like what we see with our eyes ?

Hi all,

I thought I'd revive this old thread to share with you some photos I look on my last storm chase back in March. It was 1st of March to be exact, it's taken me that long to scan the photos!
I chased that day with Mike Fewings and the George Negus film crew (some of you will remember the sgment), although the crew left before we got the storm below. Talk about bad decision!

Anyway, we had a mid level trough over the top of a surface trough, a cold front approaching and moisture from TC Monty. All that added up to nice storms in the wheatbelt. I took the photos below near Bruce Rock as the storm was approaching from the north. By this stage it had unroofed a house and uprooted many treas at Merredin where a 130 km/h wind gust was recorded.

Thank you for that VOLK
I think you are one of the few that really understand what this drought is all about
I did an interview on TWC tonight & you are the only one who has actually offered an opinion on just how desperate we are in this part of AUS
I really appreciate that & thanks a million wink

Thats OK Heather. I think that being born and bred in the bush and being in consant contact with farmers who work the land all of my life helps to have an understanding of just how critical rainfall (all weather for that matter) is to those living off the land.
I love seeing the awesome formations and power of a thunderstorm, low level snowfalls, etc.etc...but nothing sums up australian weather better than drought breaking rain. wink
And the cattle appreciate it too! laugh

Its great to see some much needed rainfall there Reddust! Like Volkl, there's nothing I like more than a lot of water on the land. Up in the mountains here, although not as dependant of course as you are, we do rely heavily on rainfall, as it provides over half of our personal supply for drinking, washing etc.

I can't wait for some floods now laugh (or am I being too optomisitc...)

 Will
