46 days i think now since perth has had rain..

and more heat here in the last few days .. about 35 or 36 for the last few days.

hasn't rained since about dec 15 or dec 18th last year.

although you guys in the east may think perth has had storms well although the symbol has come up for storms in the last few days on the weather reports on the news.... unfortunately nothing has eventuated.

most of it is inland the activity... if any??!!

going by the lastest weatherzone synoptic next week looks more like the end to this dry spell.

it is heating up quicly here with ne winds up to 33 already .. might get warmer than 35 today.

i can't see perth getting any wet weather today, the forecast says for the hills.....

it was still 32 at 11 last night !!

36 today... a late max too. this is like the 5th day in a row of these high temps, i am looking forward to the 26 forecast on wednesday.

the bom is now going for a few showers and the risk of a t storm tomorrow and then showers and t storms for the day after.

the synoptic maps look good so we are gonna get something.... i hope.

A total of 8mm through all December. Yeah you are right, not rained since 18 dec. 5.8 mm that day although coastal areas received less, and coastal areas received less than the Perth station in Mt Lawley over December.

I recon Perth would have to be one of the worst storm watching cities in Australia.Jipped again with an awsome light show right now out to see which is rare as it goes. Makes for better photos than out to the east (where it normally is)

Just wondering how much are Perth dams at the moment? few months ago they were 45% or something. Have they gone down since then?

Well Perth doesn't really rely on it's dams for water anywhere as much as other cities. Most of, if not all of the Northern suburbs is supplied by ground water from the Gnangara mound and various aquifers around the South West are used as well. These are very deep and account for about 60% of our supply.
So the dam levels are not as much of an indicator for the cities water supply.
they move water from one dam to the other as well. We have one dam in particular outside the metro supply that is really full but the water is supposed to be no good for drinking. the main dam that is used for some of Perths metro suppply is at 68%

Perth has now recorded 17 days in a row over 30C+, not sure without the data here but is that some kind of record?

Water Storage in Our Dams on Tuesday, 05 February 2008

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Current Storage: 229.58 gigalitres (GL)
Total Capacity: 622 GL
Percentage of Total Capacity: 36.9 %
Available Surface Water: 119.6 GL

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

they (the dams) seem to not go down as much now the desal plant has come online

cor blimey... suppose to get to 32 today... though i knew it wouldn;t when they said ne winds today. and it got to 36 today.... again... about the 5th day? of these temps.. almost like darwins dry season..

i suppose this heat is a by product of the la nina situation pushing the heat south?

and they keep changing their predictions for wednesday from 26 to 35 and now 29,.... it is so annoying...

and 25 last night... possibly as warm at night as brisbane yik... frown

well jandakot ( a suburb south) where i am got a sprinkle this arvo but only 0.6mm !!!! and the rain drops were very far apart so it was almost nothing.

perth stil has recored zilch

last summer that was hot in 05 was folowed by decent winter rains so i hope this year follows with good heavy winter rains...

this heat is a pain. i don't mind it but too many consecutive days in a row

ocf going for 10mm tonight 6 tomorrow and 12 on thursday??

i am wondering how those predictions can be right when the last few days nothing has eventuated in perth.

day 50 of no rain is approaching !!

just another interesting thing we are still allowed to water 2 days a week with retic systems or sprinklers for 15 minutes a station/area and hose water whenever we like
even though dam levels are low.?

Aren't the levels near 40%? That's not low at all.

I think telling people to only water twice a week is strict enough considering we also have desalinated water adding to the system.

Vinny, most of Perth's scheme water is taken from aquifers - not dams...

http://www.watercorporation.com.au/S/sources_of_perths_water.cfm?uid=7488-4865-5888-4035

27% Dam (Surface) water storage
17% Desalination
57% treated ground water.

This is scheme water, and hence doesn't include the tens of thousands of Perth households who have bore water for their gardens. Thankfully, the WA Water Corporation extended the sprinkler roster this year to include the bore water users also... about time!

I wouldn't hold your breath for rain mate - its summertime in Perth, that kind of rain would be at least a 2-5 year event I would think.

Stirling dam used for Perths main domestic water suppy outside of that supplied by deep aquifers is Stirling dam. It is at just under 68%.

The bore water users do not follow the same roster as mains water users. Bore owners are allowed to water 3 times a week. I believe this should be made the same as mains users because of the effects of lowering the water table on our wetlands in summer.(I listened to a very interesting discusion on this on the ABC). Bore owners should also think more about how they garden. So many are blaze' about better gardening techniques than just pouring heaps of water on. (I experience this attitude on a daily basis and have done for years and years).

I guess though for more regional users of bores it is a bit of a different story as the uses for bores becomes more complex.

After last nights show we experienced in our area so little rain you wouldn't need to use windscreen wipers smile
what is moving south just now might be the best chance yet for the far northern suburbs of Perth, but I don't think too many are holding their breath.

I hear there were some good falls from Southern areas and those around Padbury and Greenwood got a good bit of rain.

we got jipped frown

First rain for Perth in 7 weeks
Thursday February 7, 2008 - 09:45 EDT

Perth has had its first rain for 7 weeks. - ABC
Perth has received more than half its average rainfall for the month of February, overnight.

Seven-point-two millimetres of rain fell up to seven o'clock.

It is the first rain in Perth since December 18.

Weather Bureau forecaster, Mark Paull, says the lack of rain in January does not mean it will be a bad year for rain.

"The average rainfall for January is only 10 millimetres and literally if you get one thunderstorm you can get that in one go," he said.

"As you've seen just one rainfall event and we've got seven point two. "

"We never see much rainfall in December, January or February."

The downpour has caused a series of pole top fires across Perth.

Emergency crews have been called to fires in Guildford, Karrinyup, Scarborough, Queens Park and Canning Vale.

The fires have caused power cuts in some areas, and traffic lights are off on some main roads.

There's been a mixed reaction to overnight rainfall in the agricultural region.

Brian McConnel has had five milllimetres on his West Dandaragan property, and he says it's arrived to early.

"Unless we get quite a bit more, it's not enough to do anything with sub-soil moisture levels," he said.

But Frank Major from Gregory Springs, where there has been 22 millimetres, says the rain has boosted soil moisture.

Looks like 10-20 mm across Perth so far, drops off south of say Freo pretty quickly but not a bad garden freshener!
