Very mild spell out this way past 3 days: 19.8/21.6/19.0 C.

Circa 30mm rain accumulated here over the past month, after a drought pair of months preceding, at least has encouraged a few blossums to emerge, esp. the wattles, typical of this time of year.

Reached a top of 17.3C here in Belgrave yesterday. An interesting day weatherwise!

It was mostly fine until lunchtime, when it became cloudy with showers (locally heavy, with some beautiful rainbows while at work in Box Hill) as a weak front brushed through, then the weather cleared up towards evening. No measurable rainfall sadly. frown

The temperature dropped sharply to 9.9C late in the arvo following the frontal passage, and it wasn't very windy for the most part. But the next front is approaching, and the temperature has risen a few degrees to around 11C, and it's become quite blustery yet again! eek

A sunny mild and calm day. As dusk descends a frigid, icy feel in the still air.

Overall, a very cold, wet and gloomy end to Winter 2017, with no shortage of rainfall (at times heavy). Also some occasional fog and bitter frost as well, compensated by some gloriously mild, sunny days, not-to-mention some quite blustery, stormy weather! smile

No shortage of bitterly cold, miserable weather between August 15th and August 21st (following the 22.2C high on August 14th). The wind and rain were particularly unpleasant on August 19th when my fiancee and I were out in the Yarra Valley (Yarra Glen and later Healesville), a shame we didn't go up to Mount Donna Buang to see any of the snow that had settled. frown

August 23rd reminded us of just how notoriously crazy Melbourne's weather can be! I was at work in Box Hill btw. The day started out kinda mild and mostly sunny, but windy and increasingly unsettled with a few potentially thundery showers about the place. Then at around 4pm, a vigorous cold front blasted in, accompanied by a very stormy squall line! No thunder or lightning, but a very dark, threatening shelfie raced overhead, followed by icy gales and about 2 hours worth of torrential rain! smile

My family here in Belgrave reported heavy hail as the storm swept through, and we had a bit of fog around later that night.

The 0.9C minimum on August 28th is my lowest August minimum on record; my previous record August low is 1.7C on August 3rd 2014. My record low still remains at 0.6C on July 19th 2016.

Here's my report for the first 9 days of September 2017:

Friday September 1st 2017
Low: 4.0C High: 20.0C Rain: 0mm

Saturday September 2nd 2017
Low: 10.3C High: 20.3C Rain: 0mm

Sunday September 3rd 2017
Low: 15.2C High: 18.1C Rain: Trace

Monday September 4th 2017
Low: 7.6C High: 14.2C Rain: 5.2mm

Tuesday September 5th 2017
Low: 4.8C High: 9.9C Rain: 1mm

Wednesday September 6th 2017
Low: 4.0C High: 12.0C Rain: 10.5mm

Thursday September 7th 2017
Low: 7.5C High: 15.1C Rain: 3.2mm

Friday September 8th 2017
Low: 4.8C High: 15.1C Rain: 9.5mm

Saturday September 9th 2017
Low: 6.0C High: 17.2C Rain: 4.2mm

Except for the first two days of the month and for today (which certainly felt springlike), September 2017 has been very cold and wet! Not that I'm complaining about the additional rainfall though. smile

Very typical "September/October Pre-Cold Front Weather" (as I like to call it) on September 2nd/3rd. It was very windy (with increasingly cloud and light rain during the afternoon and evening) on September 2nd, and the temperature fluctuated wildly during the following night and into the early hours of September 3rd! It dipped to 15.2C around 6pm (my first 15C+ night since April 25th, when it dipped to 15.1C), then spiked to around 18C after midnight, no thanks to howling northerly winds. eek crazy

The cold front swept in around 9am, bringing heavy rain and a sharp temperature drop. It plummeted to 10.2C just before midday, and then stayed around 12C with chilly winds and showers for much of the afternoon.

The rest of the week (up until today) was cold, wet, and windy as one cold front after another swept through! Note that the 9.9C maximum on Tuesday is my coldest September day (and spring day for that matter) on record, beating the 12.0C maximum on September 8th 2015! It also ties with August 7th for my coldest day for 2017! eek eek

As for today, it start cold and showery up until about lunchtime. The afternoon was milder and partly cloudy with plenty of sunshine! smile

Further to my last post, we had a few rounds of small hail on Thursday night and Friday morning. smile

I collected an additional 1mm of rain in the last 24 hours btw. Currently around 6C. smile

Yep, heard a distant rumble over the Strezleckii's yesterday arvo.

Today was cold with persistent SW'ly, dry and cloudy.

Heaps of irrigation happening on dairy farms, but N Gippy's chance of a good hay season has passed I fear. Fodder is going to be expensive in 2018 IMO.

Footy season is definitely here. Storms in S Central Vic, but no posts! smile

A cool sunny morning gave way to a windy, but mild, WNW'ly afternoon here.

...keeping an eye on the storms in Port Phillip bay atm, hoping we get a rumble or two here at night.

Looks like koo wee rup is the place to be at the moment. Good to see some storm activity from a chasing point of view. I'm keen to get out and about to get some photos.
Looks like 4-6th NSW will get their first real storm outbreak, which doesn't paint a good pitcher for the fires in NSW

Any one know exactly when the horrid temporary radar for Melbourne disappears and the new and improved regular radar returns? Site says 'in October" but its Australia it hasn't clarified what year that will be?

Some nice anvils in the distant SSW this arvo and one drizzle shower.

Hi guys! Currently away in Corryong, Northeast Victoria for the long weekend, having arrived from Melbourne earlier this evening. smile

My report for the weather in Belgrave over the past few days.

Note that my weather station is temporarily offline due to maintenance (except for the rain gauge), so the observations below are from nearby Scoresby:

Sunday September 24th 2017
Low: 11.5C High: 18.7C Rain: 1.0mm

Monday September 25th 2017
Low: 9.8C High: 14.1C Rain: 2.8mm

Tuesday September 26th 2017
Low: 2.8C High: 16.7C Rain: 0mm

Wednesday September 27th 2017
Low: 7.4C High: 23.6C Rain: 0mm

Thursday September 28th 2017
Low: 6.3C High: 17.9C Rain: 0mm

Sunday was windy, unsettled, showery and stormy (but with lengthy sunny breaks), as per my last post. I collected 3.1mm of rain in the 24 hours to 9am on Sunday, with an additional 2.1mm in the 24 hours to 9am on Monday. smile

Monday was chilly and mostly cloudy of course, but following a nippy night the weather on Tuesday was sunny and quite pleasing! smile

And it was a gloriously mild to warm and mostly sunny day on Wednesday. But it was also windy with cloudy periods with the risk of a shower or thunderstorm, before a dry, gusty cool change hit Melbourne in the evening. Otherwise it was perfect for attending the 2017 Royal Melbourne Show with my family! smile

Thursday was cooler and cloudier but otherwise dry.

And now for yesterday's report, surrounding the trip to Corryong. smile

My family and I left home around 11:45am.

Due to the fact that it was the AFL Grand Final Long Weekend, there was an awful amount of traffic in the Dandenong Ranges and Yarra Valley. It took until around 12:30pm to leave the Melbourne metropolitan area and to head north up the Melba Highway. poke crazy

Our first stop was around 1pm at Yea for lunch. Roughly an hour later, we drove northwest along the Goulburn Valley Highway to Seymour.

By about 2:30pm we were racing north on the M31 Hume Freeway (Melbourne-Sydney), reaching Albury/Wodonga approximately 2 hours later. It sure felt good to be able to cross the Murray River from Victoria into NSW/ACT yet again! grin

After 45 minutes of resting, shopping and afternoon tea, we continued east along the Murray Valley Highway from the Border to the Upper Murray, arriving in Corryong around 6:45pm. smile

Weatherwise, the day wasn't too interesting but at least it was pleasant enough, and it definitely had a distinct early-springtime feel to the air! smile

It was a generally coolish day which started out mostly sunny, but became cloudier as we left home and headed out of Melbourne. We still had a few sunny breaks though, especially in Yea and Albury/Wodonga. smile

Temperatures were for the most part between 14C and 18C, although at Albury/Wodonga we had a burst of late-afternoon sunshine that pushed the thermometer up to a gloriously mild 19C. Perfect for wearing a T-shirt! grin

Pity it didn't last long, as it became overcast and gloomy the rest of the way to Corryong. No sunset visible sadly. frown

From Koetong onwards, the gathering darkness combined with higher elevation and cloud cover to send the temperature down towards 11C.

It was dry for the most part; only a few light showers skimmed the landscape, mostly around Seymour and nearby Trawool at about 2:15pm; most of these showers didn't show up on the radar. It looked unstable at times but we had no heavy rain or thunderstorm activity.

And hardly much wind either, although it was gusty as far as about Glenburn in the Yea River Valley.

Lush and green for the most part, but severe frosts have killed the grass in some spots here in the northeast. Some warmer weather and heavy rain may help though. smile

Plenty of beautiful flowers and blossoms, and canola fields (especially around Seymour, Benalla and Wangaratta).

Also a bit of snow still clinging to Mount Bogong in spite of last weekend's hot weather, at least from what I saw as I was heading east past Tallangatta this evening. It was too dark to see any snow about the NSW Snowy Mountains btw (as I was driving through Shelley), but the snow reports and web cams are encouraging! smile

And Lake Hume is currently about 91% capacity, according to Goulburn-Murray Waters! And some minor flooding about the region, especially along and near the Kiewa River. smile

Corryong had a few light showers this evening. The gloomy overcast associated with the cold front currently crossing Victoria has disappeared, although there's a bit of moonlit high cloud now moving down from NSW/ACT, in response to the trough over Central Australia to the north/northwest.

The Yarrawonga radar currently shows a band of showers stretching between Albury/Wodonga and Mount Hotham heading this way, so hopefully a couple of millimetres of rain overnight, plus some snowshowers for the Alpine areas! smile

Going to be a cold one tonight, expecting a low of 4C here. Currently around 9C in nearby Khancoban, NSW. smile
