Loving the new detailed storm forecasts from BOM
For today
Thunderstorms are possible in parts of western Victoria this afternoon and evening. Showers and a few thunderstorms are likely to develop early to mid afternoon, chiefly in the Southwest before possibly coalescing into a broken line or lines associated with a weak upper trough and advancing eastward during the evening while slowly weakening. Some gusty winds are possible however probability of severe weather appears low at this stage. A second risk area for thunderstorms in the afternoon and early evening exists in the far east. Here slow storm motion may give a threat for heavy rainfall although the risk is insufficient to delineate a "severe possible" area. Similarly a third risk area in South Gippsland sees convergent sea breezes into the Strzelecki Ranges area this afternoon with slow storm motion possible, should storms form.
Tomorrow
A trough of low pressure should cross the State during Tuesday. Isolated thunderstorms are possible, mainly in the afternoon near and east of the trough. High moisture levels and large directional turning could provide sufficient shear for severe thunderstorms chiefly in parts of the Mallee and Northern Country during the afternoon. The primary threat would be heavy rain with some chance of large hail or damaging wind depending on surface insolation and storm organisation. The evolution of the trough is somewhat uncertain and as such a greater degree of uncertainty regarding the storm threat exists than is usual. The southern extent of the threat will be strongly impacted by the degree of surface heating achieved during the day.
