I've just put in this thread for discussing weather forecasts, conditions etc relating to Melbourne and Victoria. Yes, its still dry, rather overcast in Melb, but remaining very clear in Mildura. Friday's cold front should give everyone a fair share of rain, but after that, a new High pressure cell is likely to settle in from Monday onwards...

That air behind the front looks VERY COLD indeed! Look at the latest weather chart here: http://www.bom.gov.au/cgi-bin/nmoc/latest_MSLP.pl?IDCODE=IDY00050 Just a question..do Warm Fronts ever actually affect Victoria in general? Please enlighten me! Saab

Was going to say not a breath of wind here - just by looking outside, but the Monash Weather station says otherwise! Weather - Climatology

Saab Hey Saab, and welcome to the forum! Warms front in principle don't generally affect Victoria, unless they're occluded, but even then, you need a very deep depression and a fairly hefty LWT to generate that sort of cyclogenesis.

[/b]Victoria gets up to half a dozen a year, but most aren't officially analysed (except by people who have their noses glued completely to the weather..... ) - although I do remember one that passed over a couple f years ago and because it was analysed, had satpics put up and sounding, oddly enough there were more warm fronts analysed on the MSL that year

Melbourne is already well past its record for driest May - any suggestion otherwise is a misquote. Records which are definitely still on are driest autumn on record for Melbourne, and for Victoria generally (the statewide record is virtually certain).

Latest BoM forecast suggests cloud and showers for the rest of the week in Melbourne. That high I think is actually nudging west allowing cold SW winds to blow over Victoria for the forecast period.
MELBOURNE Saturday Few showers and gusty wind easing during the afternoon. Min 9 Max 15
Sunday Morning shower or two. Min 8 Max 16
Monday Fine. Min 7 Max 16
Trend for Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday
Few showers clearing later in the period. Cool.

With four days to go we are still just in sight of the driest May ever, although 1mm would now stuff that up. However it's hard to see where that 1mm would come from.

the latest Melbourne forecast...
Tonight and Saturday A few showers, mostly during the morning. A fresh to strong southwesterly wind moderating later in the day.
Min 9 Max 15
Sunday Morning shower or two. Min 8 Max 16
Monday Fine day. Few showers at night. Min 7 Max 16
Tuesday Few showers. Min 10 Max 15
Trend for Wednesday, Thursday and Friday Shower or two clearing. Cool.
Overcast and cold for a whole week and then some! Is this a sign of things to come?

some decent west to east moving fronts with some rain bands followed by a deep SW flow with coldies and hail would be nice!! get rid of these highs!!! pressures over PNG remain a bit low with lingering monsoonal activity and weak lows across the solomons, any chance this could be keeping our highs further south?
