I can go back to the early 70s when the pool onened on 1st November, and we were always hot at least two weeks before that. Then in the 80s it went to september 30+ and I think there was a 36, in the 20s, we get 25+ in august all the time, 2004 was 27 I think.

So I reckon summer has been coming earlier for ages, and this summer bucks the trend.

I never remember November hot, it was always around mid December before you really got the hot days starting, even early December days are cooler most of the time.

Mick, are you sure you are talking about Melbourne?
Yes Once in the 1980's did sept reach above 30 but it wasnt a regular thing.
My mother also says that she went to the pools in October in the 1960 and the weather was always hot, but looking at averages and just glancing at weather stats, I wouldnt say October in the 1960's or 70's would be called hot. Mind you I am not saying hot days in October never occured. But usually the temps would peak in the high 20s rather than into the 30s during october in the 1960's and 1970's.
The first real hot days I remember growing up during the 1980's were during November, but again I would never say they were hot months.

Have a browse here: http://www.australianweathernews.com/data/archive/86/ to look at weather stats for the Melbourne area.

Tony

22C atm, 22.7C maximum would have been only a few minutes ago I reckon so still could get higher. The sun is really starting to pack a punch now with Summer just around the corner.

Considering we had no showers last night SC and it was stable and dry I think that could of actually been the case.

Nice day here 24c.

Would be nice to see at least 5mm Thursday to Saturday here. Things are still yellow and brown here frown

Extensive local fog this morning, that's all there is to report really, a long stretch of dry boring weather ahead yet again unless you are lucky to be one of the three locations in the state to get a storm Thursday night.

My tip for those three places

Pakenham
Cape Otway
Wonthaggi.

Haha, yeah they were the first three places that came into my head, lol because they are down south and generally wet and Pakenham because they always get storms whenever they are forecast without fail.

Caroline Springs sure is an oasis in the desert, looks like Alice Springs on the outside.

Blistering hot sun today but rather cool air temp. 24c, high cloud

Looks to be another fine warm sunny boring day for my Birthday again this year tomorrow exactly like last year. Can't remember last time it rained it might of been in 1998 (My 21st) from a cut off low.

Happy Birthday Johnoo!

We should break 30 today in the city. 28.5 now and its only 1:30, althrough the cloud is coming in.

September and october were both 2degs above average, oct being 2.5. looks like November will be above average too, going to be a hot summer.

I can't remember the last time Melbourne didn't reach 32C until mid-November, certainly flies in the face of all those predicting some months ago of some extreme temps towards the end of the year!!!

Yeah probably a hot end of November though humid as well with plenty of storms.

Fine and hot here today, reached to 32 degrees also and I was way off with my temperatures on my forecast.... Won't mention what I did forecast. LOL!

Actually it wasn't that long ago... 2005 we didn't reach 32 until the 2nd of November and in 2003 it wasn't until the 14th followed by by a 39 on the 15th...In fact we didn't reach 30 at all in October in both of those years and 2003 was had the 2nd hottest December on record and 2005 the hottest
