it's been pretty dry so far here, just cloudy with some sun and of course those southerlies. But doesn't mean a shower wont hit!

Just waiting for Global Warming to kick in.

Had a little bit of sun, then rain. Has heat been outlawed? or has the GFC affected the weather?

Cloudy today and now becoming windy. 16C at the moment and I'm sure the wind chill is pretty significant.

No sign of any showers here which is no surprise given the direction the wind is coming from.

I am going to be looking forward to some heat starting Saturday till at least the end of the models run, possibly more. Not too hot but not cold either. Mid to high 20's is nice though if your in the north get ready for some really hot temps, near 40 degrees.

Thankks for the heads up jake, looks like I will head north then!

I might take a few days up along the Murray somewhere.

Just plain lousy out this way, howling westerly, mostly cloudy with rain looking imminent from the W. Been a lousy windy week so far.

the wind has really picked up now, has a change come through or something? It was quite calm earlier today.

Happy new year.

Yeah quite windy here too Tony. Looks like we will get some warmer weather on the weekend but it doesn't look to be quite as warm as I thought a couple of days ago still should be dominant seabreezes both days now in the afternoon which may keep a lid on the temps both days. mid to high 20's range in Melbourne higher of course up North. Next week looking fairly mild again nothing really too hot in the outlook.

It's quite possible now we could get into the 2nd week of January still without a day over 35c in Melbourne yet this Summer.

John.....you are killing me with that!!! I have resigned to the fact we are going to have an overall cool summer and it's just killing me inside!!

frown Looks like no beach days for me this year and if I want to get some heat I will have to take those trips to the Murray smile

I can understand you enjoying the cool weather....living where you are, any hot weather brings risks of fires and such. But hey I am just a poor city dweller who would like to see some sun, feel some warmth....oh I miss those lazy hazy days of summer smile

Haha, Norfolk I guarantee you will get at least 2 weeks of heat this summer.

I say enjoy this mild weather while we can, keeps the water storages from going down too quickly as well as things staying greener for just that while longer.

No wind and some rain and I would be happy, but I'm asking a lot in January . wink

Just need to head north of the ranges Tony, anywhere north of the divide will do.

Coastal areas have fresh to strong sea breezes most of the time, particularly with prevailing southerlies and if there are going to be any showers around in Summer the coast will get them. Apollo Bay for example looks pretty ordinary today, it's hardly ever hot down there.

That's the main problem with VIC compared to say QLD and NSW, the number of warm days down at the beach are few and far between most years.

EDIT: Windchill down at Cape Otway atm is 3C, how shattered would you be if you were one of the masses down around there, it's peak season down there.

Thats right Tony, just take that holiday along the Murray. Perfect, sunny, hot weather. Maybe some storms to make things even better!

I like temps above 20 at least, but particularly above 25-30 degrees mostly.

We had some showers on and off today streaming off the ocean as you can see on the radar moving northeast over the Otways.

well we are probably one of the few places that didn't see any precipitation today. There may have been some light drizzle early this morning but as far as I can see it has been a dry day.
Mind you i know some showers have fallen around me today!

Wind really picked up this afternoon, the southerlies are coming from quite far south. It is going to be quite cold over the next few nights, almost record breaking! For example, Laverton is going for an overnight low of 7 Saturday. the airport's going for 6....now THAT's COLD!! The Yarra Valley I have just seen going for 4!!!

Caroline Springs: Min: 12.7 Max: 21.3
Melbourne: Min: 14.7 Max: 20.4

Had a few very brief showers, solid but so brief they wouldn't have registered anymore than 0.2mm I reckon. 8C here atm.

6C Saturday morning at the airport would probably mean around 3C or 4C here which will be a bit of a shock, it was around 3C minimum here in January I don't remember exactly when but sometime this decade probably around 5 or 6 years ago and that's the lowest I've seen it in Summer.

could 19th jan 2004 have been the date?

Temps in the melbourne area that day...amazing mins and daily range!

Melbourne: 9.9-31.1
Melb Airport: 6.7-30.4
Coldstream: 1.4-29.5
Viewbank: 5.4-30.1
Essendon: 6.6-31.0
Scoresby: 6.3-29.1
Laverton: 5.2-31.0

Looks like we will get close to those overnight temps sat morning.

The day before, the 18th Jan 2004 Castlemaine recorded a min of 3.0 degrees!
