Yunta got 31.2mm; if only there was a gauge (even manual) around where it all began. It was red/black on the radar there for over an hour!

Video is still being processed, but here is the first instalment of the Lightning display out in the Riverland on New Years Eve. The video has not been edited except for adding music and titles. I have not chopped, sliced, diced, screwed up any part of it, it is AS IS!

Just watched the vid, awesome work. That's some really frequent lightning which is something you just can't tell by only watching the radar!

Good work there Astro. Pity there weren't more CGs but it was quite a show none the less!

These pics are from yesterday to my N/NE. Such a pity I couldn't chase but I enjoyed watching the build up from a distance.
According to the convection charts there maybe more of the same today. Time will tell..... wink

Wish I could have got out there again, but I used up all my brownie points on New years eve, need to earn some more by redoing the front garden URK!

Im liking the forecast for late this week coming with Thursday forecasted to be 30 then the temp shoots up to 37 on Friday with the high possibility of 40+ temps for the weekend so it looks like were well and truly into summer now smile

2nd pic for me Andy, love the car racing through and the reflections in the road, and the various bolts captured.... great shot.

Great first video Astro cheers (will watch the second one later) - it provides a very good record of what it would have been like to stand there watching the storm. Wow what a storm! shocked Storms with lightning of that frequency at night are rare in southern SA in my experience. I'm so glad someone was up there to see the spectacle. Well done for being there and on new year's eve too cool
Southern Adelaide had a pretty spectacular storm a while back on new years eve, late nineties perhaps?
Awesome stormcloud shots there Lord Gladstone - very impressive smile I hope you won't bear any permanent scars from the experience. I have a few nerd

Here is the third and final part to the series

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pF-xN_9A6yA

The video is still being processed...

I am also in the process of uploading a high speed up tempo version of all the footage put together...

For some reason Youtube put in a copyright claim against the third video, even though the content is free.... go figure?!?

Astro what do you mean exactly by "Youtube put in a copyright claim against the third video"?
Do you mean they are claiming copyright on the third video so you would no longer have copyright on it?

no they claim that some of the content used in the video ie. the music. is copyright by someone called rumblefish. Doesn't effect the video, but it maybe banned in some areas of the world...

Thanks - then (just my opinion) I would redo it with either no music or with uncopyrighted music and post the new version on youtube and remove the first version.
Another personal observation - I routinely turn the music off when I watch weather videos - it distracts me. So when I watched your first video I muted the sound smile
On a happy note, I would think you now hold the record for the frequency of lightning flashes on an SA video posted on the WZ forums (subject to confirmation) cool

Would it be easy to remove the sound track from the version they claim copyright for the sound track of, or would you need to reconstruct the entire video?

easy to do, but I am not at fault and rumblefish does not hold any copyright to the music... unless it becomes a big issue I wont do anything to the videos... I could always use You tubes Audio swap feature which removes all traces of original audio from the video... but I am not going to grin It's no big deal, just surprised, just found out I have about 5 other videos with copyright problems LOL.... oops grin

I will await with interest to see what happens. Glad to hear you have easy options if it does become a big issue smile
Re "You tubes Audio swap feature which removes all traces of original audio from the video..' cool I didn't know that existed - always imagined sound tracks were welded onto videos for life.
