Smells brilliant outside at the moment, I just went out to check the raingauge and we now have 2.5mm (so 0.5mm from that last lot). I think we are already well and truly below the forecast minimum of 20 here, I'd say it feels about 17 or 18 degrees, time to rug up and watch the box set of How I Met Your Mother that arrived today, as it doesn't look like we will get anything else tonight.

Went outside around 20 minutes ago to catch the remnants of the sunset and the lightest of drizzle was falling.

Just back outside and it's getting a bit heavier. Saw a few flashes to the WNW then a big one. Have just seen on the tracker that a few strikes have moved a bit more East towards me, will have another look.

Bit of a let-down tonight... but yer half expected really. Fairly early on I could tell Adelaide wouldn't get much. But it's even carking it now in the Mid North.
Probably only storms overnight will be in fresh development behind it all. Probably NW of Elliston-Snowtown I reckon.
Tomorrow still looks a little interesting though, but probably for northern EP & the Mid North again only.
Might consider heading up Snowtown-Burra direction if its worth it. Would have to be way better than tonight though.

Glad I didn't wash my car today - the 35 dusty drops on it to Adelaide and back re-affirms my "Can always do it Tomorrow" attitude I'm cursed with at the moment.

Yep, pretty disappointing this evening. There were the odd bits of brilliance, but so few and far between that the camera was always in the wrong direction. frown

You know where we are if you head this way Tim, always welcome. smile

Looks like I fared better than most so I'd better put up some pics. Unfortunately I missed a pearler of a cell over Georgetown to my south because of an appointment and when I found time to chase I was met with a gale and duststorm and retreated to my car. The cloud structure was awesome and it threw frequent pulsing CGs.
Not to be outdone I chased the same storm and caught it east of Jamestown where the first five pics were taken. The last two are cropped zoom pics as the action moved away. The windmill and crawler are from another cell that crept up behind me and over me.

Well done Lord Gladstone cheers - you got right onto the action there smile
I like all those piccies. That strike with the long horizontal fetch is quite unusual - almost as if it maliciously changed direction and went right out of its way to catch someone completely unawares evillaugh
Also great to see shots taken at evening when the landscape is still visible.

Impressive storm there Helen cool - was similar structures down here with the rain blowing in a different direction to the steering wind.

Thanks Unstable and good morning! sleep
Yeah I think that horizontal strike changed course to strike down some bad person who obviously deserved it! Keep an eye on the obituary column. laugh
I actually like the second to last one where the strike is actually aligned with the road that peters off in the distance. Maybe its the highway to heaven? wink

Sweeeet work, Nick. The last especially, is a ripper, but the fourth is a fabulous example of just how far lightning can travel... a great image of perspective. cool Glad you got to photograph what we could only see the remaining light flashes of.

I s'pose I could've/should've chased, but yesterday was a long one and today is shaping up the same, so the sparkies, if any, will have to come to us. wink

Still firing nicely up north. Looks to be the same today with much higher instability too. Unfortunately probably too far away though. IMO should be all north of Ceduna-Wudinna-Whyalla-Peterborough.

Not quite sure why BOM have left possible thundery shower on Adelaide's forecast for this morning. Not a chance.

Was spectacular to watch, but extremely difficult to photograph- many loud swear words echoed through the quiet northern eyre peninsula bush last night.....

Great pics by all, looks like you guys got quite a show up that way! I'm kinda glad I didn't head out, not only because of how far I would have had to travel but also because this morning was difficult enough having to get up early for work for the first time in about 4 weeks poke

We ended up with 2.5mm altogether, not too bad for a system that none of us were really expecting!
