Everyday I find another insult to our intelligence ....list of stories Here .....next they'll be asking the parisheners to do their jail time for them also.

I recall Mark put this thread in over this exact topic ...the second post of this thread say it all.
is where I take my lead from wink

The lucicrous happened here at Arnold over the last few weeks.
We were having our community hall ceiling vacuumed out and insulated ....the lads/gorillas just got started and I felt the amount of activity in the ceiling may cause some ceiling damage and so I took it upon myself to order and instal 10 no 4 acros to help support the ceiling. (Pictured)
Foolishly then suggested to the committee that maybe we should put a few extra braces/Toms in the ceiling to strengthen the 120 year old building.
handballed the job to committee and headed to my sons for a few days.
Came back to find nothing done and a stop called on the job because no one has a RED CARD ....the carpenter had been told by the local Liberal Party member (Llanelly Liberals have a party of one ...google it if you don't believe me hehehehheee)
Think he imagined he'd get Garret to jail yet! heheheeee

anyway, the job had been stopped until they could get some RedCards in there.
I spoke to son and he arrived with another concrete demolition xspurt, both with RedCards .....I dragged out my mate the HighVoltage Linie and we wrote up a JSA for the job after okaying the use of his JSA book.. JobSafetyAnalysis
Now we really needed the 'acros' as these three blokes stomped around in the roof ...not one of them had any idea. I directed every tech screw and tie down. Powder monkeys and 'hotglover' linies don't make good carpenters, red card or not!

Is how silly it's getting ....these guys had no idea about what to tie their harnesses off to. They used harnesses in a ceiling that would all fall down around them (but they complied) ....I put the acro support under neath and that was all that was required ...but still they harnessed up.

Personally I'm glad I'm out of all this silliness smile

Want to see how you stack up with basic science knowlege with a simple 12 question general knowlege test? Have a look at http://pewresearch.org/sciencequiz/ read the small article and complete the test. Funnily enough after not doing science since 1973 I somehow managed to get 12 correct responses and obtain a 100% correct mark which puts me in the top 10% of US respondants.

the test was almost an insult really Wobbley, I'll run it on my 13 year old grandson and see how he does.
only one that stopped me was the antibiotic question ...had me thinkin' 'any new developments with bacteria that I missed??'
Nah, I thought! heheheee
is a bit of a comment on the USA in itself I suppose ....without being derogatory but is obvious if that is considered a TEST

Maybe we Aussies should stop doing the science test Sir Boab -- I was curious so did the test and got 100% as well. We might make the Yankees think they are smarter than they really are!!

"I am proud to say my peers are farmers and people who know about weather because they live out in it. … Some of these farmers can't even read or write, but they sure know about weather."
So he's obviously not expecting many farmers to go online and read his article. Why they probably don't even have electricity.

Heheheheheee, I afraid I'm gunna have to blame you Wobbley for wasting my afternoon .....some good reads there hey! The Ken Ring ones a beauty smile

LOL Arnoldnut. I try mate, heaven (if there is one) knows I try to bring a little light into the darkness. wink

I couldn't believe that anyone who has actually read a newspaper at least once a week for the last year could have gotten anything less than 90% on that test. I suppose they had to dumb it down a bit otherwise people would have lost concentration.

I once sat a French exam which was multiple choice (A or B) and every correct answer was A. 100 questions and A was the answer everytime. Of course it was way way back in first year high school in 1968 and probably the first ever multiple choice questionnare I had ever seen.

13 yr old grandson had a go last night and took his time.
he didn't know the first one and passed ...said "cortisone was not really an over the counter drug and antacids weren't a drug at all ....asprin thins your blood, so can't be that!....trick question and I pass "
He screwed that one up and I forgave him passing on the stem cell question as he attends a certain college
The bacteria question he passed on also and ended with a score of 9.
Reckons he'd learnt pretty well everything at school ...especially the earthquake / tsunami stuff but then went on and on about Chile itself, which he said was all the discussion in class at the moment.....which was heartening.
His Nans threatened to kill me if I comment on her scores ...so I won't wink

Don't you hate it when you purchase a car, to find out the brakes are horribly, illegaly faulty, and have been since before you bought it? So - the time bomb has been garaged, and I am left wondering how a roadworthy and safety certificate were issued....now...to write letters....

TC_76, usually over the phone. wink

It's buyer beware, that's for sure!
Best course of action would be straight in for an RACQ report.

edit ...RAC reports used to be $50 for a member ......bet it ain't cheap now though frown

Phone in safety certificates are only $120 in SEQ..not worth the risks either...id rather spend a bit more and be safe, make sure the cars legal..rather then kill some innocent family down the road..

phoning in your VIN and engine numbers is easy...living with defects and or guilt is not..

i should be in the shed today..rain, humidity and migraine is stopping me rite now..see if i can dodge the visual aberrations and light sensitivity a lil latter so i can put in some hours out there..TOW is not getting any younger..

Definitely buyer beware, but the car was purchased at a yard on the Magic Mile in Moorooka...and I wasn't the chief purchaser....

Andre..the yard wouldn't have two four letter words in its name?

note to self..dont directly name a business directly..any wholesale yard on the mile should be avoided..if its got a lot of cars under $10,000..its more the likely a wholesale yard..
betcha the warranty was not worth a fluff in a bathtub...

A rather amusing story here. It seems like one local council in London gave a parking ticket to one of their own veichles, then took themselves to court when they refused to pay. laugh
