Hi Trav, I'm looking forward to the next chase. I definately want to have the company next time. What will make it more exciting is if it hits during the daytime. Cyclone Larry was daytime which made video opportunities far better. good work. Mine is uploading now. Including some dodgy narrations lol.

Then all you need is nat geo or dicovery to pick it up.. and you can have Storm Chasers Australia.

Yes I do have a very active imagination, but all potentials I reckon wink

It could be like the Ghostbusters when they made it big: uniforms, new logo etc... then in 5 years time, they'll just be doing kids' parties!! poke

Great chase guys. It's been a great learning experience!

Hahah not quite what I had in mind but that made me LOL grin

That's the problem with cyclones they need several weeks to plan but give days or even hours.

We need your next one to be in the day time... Get some better footage (not saying it wans't good. just that it was too dark)

mayby you could get a big spotty to light up the area your filming

Will have a better camera next time, the trade off for HD is poor low light performance.

Video never does justice to the destruction that cyclones cause, you guys did a great job getting the videos smile Just hearing the wind tells me how it would of been in the cyclone and gives me goose bumps reminds me of Larry! So I recon you should all be congratulated smile

Planning a chase like that would never be easy so you all did well I think!

Just a suggestion, in the Darwin Museum Tracy Exhibit, there is a 'black room' that plays a recording taken on the night, great educational tool, sends your hair on ends. I, have never been in there but you can hear it every time someone opens the door.

I wonder if there's a cyclone museum up here? Would be a great idea if there isn't. Or even a van, like the life education van, that travelled from town to town. Maybe when trav, nitso and thommo are rich from selling all their footage and photos, and their Tropical Storm Chasers show on Discovery channel they can fund one? wink

One thing I noticed with the vids you shot is the rain didnt look anywhere near as torrential as what we seemed to get in Mackay. (Or I'm looking at a quiter moment.)

I imagine the clips actually belie the strength of the winds in Proserpine. Had I been able to film the conditions out the front of the Ocean International in Mackay the conditions may well have appeared worse than what you experienced but I'm sure the reality was far different.

I'm wonder if the level of precipation has some effect on the strength of the wind gusts and the likelihood of damage occurring at a particular wind screen. I.e Are 150kmh winds with little or nor precipation more damaging than say 120kmh with heavy rain.

Either way, I sure wish I'd made it to Proserpine to experience the eye.

Mate the max winds in the video were just under 150kmhr, that nitso recorded. We then had to go and find shelter as it was getting to dangerous, as tin started flying around. Winds incrased ALOT more but we just couldnt get video, it was just to dark with the power out

Hey Nitso, thanks for the text to see if I was right. Appreciate it man. I'm now back in Townsville, so if you're having a meet I might see if I can join in with some of the random stuff I video'd.

Thanks, guys.

Great footage and so pleased you guys came home safe. I heard one of our local weather guys say that the cyclone season still has another month to run, so FNQ is still in there with a chance this season.

Thought that could be the case. Power went out for us at around 11pm just as the winds were starting to get real strong which was a shame cause the beachfront had been nicely floodlit until then.

One thing I'll add to my chase kit in future is some powerful spotties so as not to be dependent upon local power staying up which is always unlikely when the winds start hitting cat 3 strength.
