Was surprised to see it got down to 0.8C last night here. It was cloudy and it felt quite mild this morning outside, like around 5-6C. I'm guessing that minimum must have occured sometime before sunrise, perhaps around 2am?

Only 9mm mtd in Cooma so quite dry now, fairly typical though. The lowest temp I have ever seen in Armidale was not associated with any cold front so it can get cold when the highs allow the radiation loss.

My mean mtd only +0.2 to average here so passable given the lack of fronts.

6C is still pretty cold! We'd be lucky to get that very often in Canberra! If we got 7.9C here, it would be a near-record!!

There seems to be a bit of a worrying lack of minuses after the good batch of minuses we had which ended yesterday. There are non minuses at all in the minimums forecast in the outlook period which goes forward one week in the BOM forecast.

Is it normal to go more than a week without any minuses in Canberra in late May/early June?

I would think that if you have a week of cloudy weather in the ACT in May or June it would be most likely that the minus temps would not be there, although the daytime temps would be lower so that should keep you in a jumper CW. wink

I worry mainly about consistently above average mean temperatures, which has been the case now since end 2008. Thankfuly May here is sitting only at +0.2 to average which is passable given the lack of fronts.
However I would worry about a lack of minus temps if I was living at a ski lodge where I expect to have snow on the ground.

CW, if you have a look at the stats for may so far, you're actually travelling 1C below the min average for the month. However you are currently at 1.8C above the max average.

At Wagga we're comfortably 1.8C below the min average and 1.6C above the max. Good bit of rain ahead for us this week if the forecast is to be believed.

My monthly anomaly here so far is +1.1C for max & -0.5C for min temps, so not too far different from elsewhere by the looks of it.

The monthly anomaly in Armidale so far for May is +1.0C for max, and -3.4C for min temps. The May average is 16.3C for maximums, and 3.3C for minimums. The minimums this month have been wintry and we're currently averaging -0.1C (which is a little bit lower than even the long-term June minimum average!), our warmest night has been just 5.2C and coldest so far has been -7.1C.
Over the last week of May, I'm expecting the minimum anomaly to decrease slightly to around 2.8-3.0C below normal and the maximum anomaly to decrease a bit to be almost right on average.

After a slightly warmer and drier than normal May in Sunny Corner, and on much of the CT's, it now looks certain that the first half of June will have well above average temperatures, and rainfall will also continue slightly below average. I could not agree with you more CW that "The number of above-average temperatures is becoming a bit worrying.... ". As for the ski season, I will believe it if I see it.

Forecast has changed abruptly. We had "possible showers" the next 7 days, except Tuesday. Now that's disappeared, and we have clear frosty nights instead. That's kind-of a flip-flop.

Night sky is incredibly clear tonight, you can see everything blazing away. Not bad.

Sky all clear and blazing here also, but it will be a struggle just to get a frost.

After I saw the forecast, I went and stuffed my car cover onto the windscreen. Normally on frost nights I park the car up where a gap in the trees sees the first rays of dawn hitting through so the windscreen is melted when I want to leave, but I wasn't thinking frosts tonight.

Still not sure, but it's such a very clear night, and now the rain for the week has disapeared... I think there'll be too much damp and humidity around after the rain for frost tonight.
