Here's previous weeks' weather in Mena, Arkansas:

This week featured a nice warm-up to above seasonal maximums (normal temperatures for this part of April is a max. of 67F/19.4C with a min. of 43F/6.1C). The previous (on the 27th) Pacific cold front swept much of the humidity away and (with little wind and stronger sun angle) gave us some good temperature spreads (on the 29th-30th; the spread on the 30th was our biggest daily difference since April 1, 2009). Late in the week, winds switched to (often gusty) the S/SW bringing more GofM moisture over my area. There was a chance for scattered severe weather as another Pacific cold front approached my area (on the 2nd), but all I copped was a nice early-Spring thundershower (rain lingered into early AM hours of the 3rd. I really get leery this time of year when we get much above normal temperatures with strong moisture-bearing S/SW winds and a fairly strong front approaching). Otherwise, the days were warm and pleasant. Leaves are now appearing on the local trees and early in the week, I saw the redbud trees blooming in town (in these parts, they say it's Spring for sure when you see the redbuds blooming. I think you Aussies call those trees Prunus trees). Overall Low-abt. 6:51PM-listed for the 2nd. Today (Easter Sunday at 3:28PM) started mostly sunny with a start of 47F/8.3C, clouds rolled in shortly after with drizzle (another Pacific cold front is to our NW), the Mena Info Line gives a temperature of 69F/20.5C but it feels colder than that. Upcoming week is forecasted to have a warm start (possibly tops of 80F+/26C+, but my area will likely be slightly cooler), with more T-showers likely and a cool-down around mid-week.

Wishing ALL a Blessed Easter and a Tip-Top Week~~~Wet Snow

Hey Folks:

Well--on the US Daily Weather Feature Map, it shows a warmfront well to our NE, but the weather here today (Sunday) matches what a warm front would do in my area: Clouds rolling in (early day AM) with drizzle--coupled with gusty W winds, keeps the temperature steady or slowly rising even through the late PM hours. In fact, the temperature even at this late hour (11:57PM)--according to the Mena Info Line--is still hanging around the 69F/20.5C-mark!

I really don't like the looks of this set-up as we are to have another front invade the area on Tuesday and a Severe Weather Outbreak looks more possible all the time (esp. if my area does have maximum temperatures climbing to near 80F/26C).....Ahhhh, nothing like Springtime in Arkansas!

Cheers & Keeping An Eye To The Sky~~~Wet Snow

Hope you had an enjoyable easter! I think the US is about to be invaded by Aussies over the next 2 months mate. Looks to be another big season ahead.

This week featured very warm tops with scant rainfall. A warm front--clear skies in the morning, rapidly clouding over; steady/slowly-rising temperatures throughout the afternoon--gave very light drizzle on (Easter Sunday) the 4th; the passage of a Pacific cold front gave the light rainamount on the 7th (once again, the southern-end of the front had scattered and thin shower-areas upon reaching my part of Arkansas. There were severe cells a little later on, in E/SE/NE Arkansas). Had fairly gusty pre-frontal SW winds on the 6th; felt very humid on the 5th (likely the 1st day this Spring that has felt fairly humid). The lack of humidity and calm winds caused some good temperature spreads on the 9th & 10th. Some parts of Polk County actually had below 32F/0C minimums on the morning of the 9th. Unless something drastic happens, I think we've likely seen our last freezing minimum until later in the Autumn. I did some yardwork much of the week and the sunshine felt warm & glorious. For this part of April (the 7th-10th), Mena's avg. max. is 69F/20.5C with avg. min. of 44F/6.6C. Overall Low-abt. 10:51PM-listed for the 7th.
Forecast for upcoming week calls for tops of 80F+/26C+ after starts in the 50sF+/10C+ and with mostly dry conditions.

Wishing ALL a Superb Week~~~Wet Snow
@ Greg Sorensen: Yes, I had a Wonderful Easter, Many Thanks. Yes, it'll be great to see the US "invaded" by Aussies (& others) and I Greatly look forward to their storm-chase reports/pics. Mabye some of them could swing by here and say "Hello".

This week featured more above-seasonal warmth--some good temperature spreads early-week--and a late-week cool-down. The showers (lingering into today--Sunday) were due to yet another Pacific cold front (very chilly today--now 3:07PM Sunday--light rain and a temperature in the lower 50sF/~11C). Otherwise, somewhat coolish mornings gave way to very pleasant afternoons; and very scant cloudcover. Overall Low-abt. 11:50PM-listed for the 15th; Overall Low-abt. 11:33PM-listed for the 17th.
Upcoming week's forecast calls for rising maximums and shower chances near the end of the week.

This week was noticeably cooler overall than the previous one. Early-week rain was from the departing (passage on 17th) Pacific cold front (which also triggered disturbances to our south on the 19th). The late-week T-showers (Thankfully no severe weather in my area) were due to yet-another Pacific cold front (passage on the 23rd). The front ushered in fairly gusty WNW winds on the 24th (and also today--Sunday; been a while since we had such gusty day-long winds). There were severe T-storm cells in E & NE Arkansas (not sure of any Tornado sightings in the state). Thankful as well that the possible large hail missed my area, also. For this part of April, Mena's avg. max. is 72F/22.2C with avg. min. of 48F/8.8C. Was good to see the wetness as the last couple weeks of this (normally wet) month have been fairly dry. Felt really (REALLY) chilly on the 18th: Overall High-12:01AM-and the Low was abt. 7:59PM; chilly with light drizzle and little temperature movement, with cool NE breezes. Overall Low-abt. 11:20PM-listed for the 23rd.
They're showing footage (on the news) of the sickening twister damage in Yazoo City, Mississippi. They also are showing about stormchasers and are interviewing chaser Reed Timmer.

Upcoming week will see more variable temperatures and abundant sunshine with recovering maximums. Under p/c skies and gusty W winds, the Mena Info Line has the temperature at 68F/20C now at 5:08PM Sunday.

Wishing ALL an Awesome Week~~~Wet Snow
P.S. Good Luck to ALL (US & Foreign) chasers out there! Please stay safe!

This week featured a coolish start and a warmer finish. The core of High pressure was on top of Arkansas mid-week and this allowed for some very cool minimums (near daily record lows) on the 27th & 28th. Soon, the return Southerly flow (around backside of eastward-moving High pressure) kicked in and brought warmth with copious amounts of moisture, humidity and fairly gusty S/SW winds. Rain was from that potent Pacific cold front (see the 2010 US Stormchase thread)--passage late PM on the 30th. Thankfully, the severe/tornadic cells were to Mena's E/SE/NE, all I copped was a normal "garden variety" T-shower. Overall Low-abt. 11:52PM-listed for the 26th; Overall Low-abt. 11:40PM-listed for the 30th. Cloudiness kept the late-week maximums a bit lower and probably saved my area from the nastiest of the weather. Upcoming forecast calls for fairly warm tops (well into the 80sF/26C+) with another chance for T-showers near the weekend.

This week featured some very nice warmth with coolness at the first and last. The scant rain was lingering from a departing Pacific cold front; a--dry in my area--Pacific cold front passed through on the 7th. The warmth felt very nice and the week featured a number of days with fairly gusty SW winds--bringing warmth and copious amounts of humidity. The maximum on the 7th was reached at 12:01AM and abt. 4PM. Upcoming forecast calls for recovering tops (a few days could top 80F/26C) and good T-shower chances early-week. Very, very chilly here today (Sunday--Mother's Day--now 9:28PM) cloudy with early day AM T-shower (and a few thunder rumbles just a bit ago), on-and-off showers with a maximum not far above 50F/10C (after a start this morning of 47F/8.3C). Parts of the N & NE US have been under Freeze & Frost Advisories the last couple mornings--kinda late in the year for this.

Looks like you had quite a similar day on Sunday to what we had at the weekend (9C/48F maximum on Saturday). We could also get a frost tonight as well.

What's the latest date in your records for a frost in Mena? (We've had frost in June twice, in 1989 and 1991)

Please send some of that warmth here, that looks like a summer heatwave to me. We've had daytime max temps in the low 50's for most of this month and with the current outlook looking rather cool, we could go the entire month without reaching 20C/68F.

PS, sad to hear of the deaths and destruction caused by the recent tornadoes in Oklahoma.

.....15..79F/26.1C..62F/16.6C..2.25"/57.1mm

This week--the 10th and later--had warm temperatures, plenty of humidity, thundershowers and fairly gusty S winds. Rain on 9th was lingering from previous Pacific cold front; this front retreated N as a warm from and gave the rain on the 10th & 11th. Same scenario late week: T-showers on 14th from Pacific cold front, which turned into a warm front and brought the heavy T-showers on the 15th (this front caused "tropical-like" off-and-on T-showers also today [Sunday, now 11:27PM]). The 9th felt almost "Winter-like" compared to the rest of the week. The maximum on the 9th was achieved at 12:01AM and about 4:45PM; Overall Low-abt. 11:56PM-listed for the 14th. Most of the days had day-long cloudiness or cloudy starts gradually becoming partly-cloudy by the late day PM hours (really humid-feeling). Upcoming week calls for similar temperatures with more chances for T-showers (soupy airmass still in place).

.....21..83F/28.3C..57F/13.8C..---
.....22..83F/28.3C..66F/18.8C..---

This week featured warm and humid conditions, aided by frequent gusty S/SW winds. Rain on the 16th lingered from the warm front of the previous day; a warm front brought the T-showers late PM on the 19th, frequent T-showers as the Pacific cold front passed on the 20th--skies mostly cleared by the early PM hours. Thankfully, the severe and nasty weather missed my area again. Cloudcover kept the maximums a bit lower than forecasted on the 21st-22nd (forecast tops on those days were touching the 90F/32.2C-mark). Nonetheless, higher humidity kept the conditions a bit sticky feeling (for this part of May, Mena's avg. max. is 78F/25.5C with avg. min. of 57F/13.8C). Overall Low-abt. 10:27PM-listed for the 16th.
Upcoming forecast calls for continued warm and muggy weather: maximums in upper-80sF/30C+, starts in the mid-60sF/18-19C and chances for scattered T-showers for much of the week.

.....28..84F/28.8C..64F/17.7C..---
.....29..85F/29.4C..65F/18.3C..---

This week featured fairly warm and consistent temperatures (avg. temperatures for Mena from May 23-29 is avg. max. of 79.5F/26.3C with avg. min. of 58.8F/14.8C)--so as you can see, fairly above normal on both highs and lows for the week. The shower totals were due to heating (aka "instability", "popcorn" or "pop-up"-type) showers. The humidity added to the discomfort factor. We're starting to get into that part of the year where only the strongest cold fronts can penetrate this far south. Mena was really in the "do-nut hole" on the 26th, as "pop-up" T-showers were taking place to the west, east and south of town (quite a good light show to the south, as we were taking kids home from Wednesday night church services). Otherwise, the week was fairly unremarkable.
Upcoming week forecast calls for continued warm temperatures with more slight chances (20-30%) for T-shower activity. We're also getting into that part of the year in which most every day has at least a slight (20% or so) chance for (scattered/isolated) T-showers.
Tomorrow (Monday) is the Memorial Day holiday in the US, marking the unofficial start to the Summer (Vacation) season in the US (as most schoolkids have newly ended another school year--the new school year will begin in late August). The official start to Summer in the NH is on June 21st.
I'll try to post regularly, as--after 31 years--I'm in the middle of moving to another (smaller) house (which--by street--is 1 mile/1.6km from where I now live. I still need to figure out a place to put the rainguage at my future house).

Wishing ALL a Great Week~~~Wet Snow

What we lacked in warmth (lower elevation locales had higher temperatures) we more than made up for in copious amounts of "sticky" energy-sapping humidity. We had our first 90F/32.2C maximum of the year yesterday (Tuesday) and it felt even warmer (esp. as those "pop-up" showers keep missing my area or simply do not form).

Another humid and warm late-Spring week. The T-shower on the 3rd--fairly heavy rain--was due to a cold front washing-out over my area. Our 1st day of the year with a maximum of 90F+/32C+ was on June 1st--although the humidity indexes were 90F+ for some days before this.
Upcoming forecast calls for more warm and sticky weather with chances for T-shower activity.

Wishing ALL a Fantastic Week~~~Wet Snow

Folks:

Very sad news as there was a flash-flood tragedy in Arkansas early this (Fri.) morning.
The tragedy took place at Albert Pike Campground in far SW'ern Montgomery County (not far from Polk County). An upper-low dropped 7-10"/180-250mm rain on the area in a fairly short time. This--and the mountainous topography--caused the nearby Little Missouri River to rise from 3FT/1M around 3:30AM to 23FT/7M around 5:30AM. So far there are 16 known deaths (some children) and an unknown number of missing--as the camp registry was also washed away. Search/rescue operations will resume at daybreak Saturday (now 11:07PM Friday). I fear the death toll will climb even higher as there could have been as many as 300 campers in the general area. Mena was on the northern fringe of the upper-low and KENA only copped a bit over 1"/25mm+ rain from it. This same system dropped upwards of 12"/304mm rain on parts of Texas, south of Dallas.

Kind Wishes~~~Wet Snow

Hi Wet Snow

The tragedy in Arkansas was on the news here too. Always very sad to hear about loss of life. I am sure that the local people in Arkansas are rallying support for the families involved.

Hello Folks:
Here's previous weeks' weather in Mena, Arkansas:
(I was in the hospital--Mena Medical Center then to St. Edward's Mercy Medical Center in Ft. Smith--from June 5-9).

DATE......HIGH.......LOW........RAIN
June...6..NA.........NA.........1.00"/25.4mm*
.......7..NA.........NA.........0.25"/6.3mm*
.......8..NA.........NA.........---
.......9..NA.........NA.........---
......10..78F/25.5C..69F/20.5C..0.05"/1.2mm*
......11..86F/30C....73F/22.7C..1.20"/30.4mm*
......12..88F/31.1C..74F/23.3C..---

(*=Since I don't have my rainguage erected yet at my new home, the rainfall totals are estimates [6th-7th estimated by friends' account and 10th-11th estimated by raintotals from KENA]). Rain on 6th-7th was from upper-level impulses from a stationary front to the north (Ft. Smith got very little rain in brief T-shower on the 6th). Rain on 10th-11th from an eastwardly-tracking upper-low (which brought the tragic flooding to SW Montgomery County). Most of the week--esp. the latter part--was very hot and humid feeling (oppressive and sultry are other words that come to mind). A few mornings started mostly cloudy, giving way to p/c skies in the late AM hours (this kept the minimums to fairly high levels; at 7AM this [Sun.] morning, KENA reported the temperature already at a steamy 76F/24.4C). The only saving grace were Westerly breezes (looks like that cold front isn't going to make it much closer to my area).
Upcoming forecast calls for MOTS (More Of The Same): sultry conditions with forecast tops into the 90sF/32C+ (we'll likely be a bit cooler) with balmy starts in the 70sF/21C+. Well, I guess that's about right as Summer in the NH commences on the 21st. I'm staying by a fan and keeping hydrated!

Wishing ALL A Most Blessed Week~~~Wet Snow
