Nothing much to do but get out with the camera this time of the year. Got all 3 in the space of 10 minutes.

speaking of Illyushins, here's my favourite bit of footage. Shot from the Canberra control tower some years back, when an Ilyushin 76 *just* managed to take off before ploughing through the road to/from Queanbeyan that I and many thousands drive on every day. The commentary from the controllers filming the takeoff is priceless.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UZGXwbPfwQs

He really did use every inch of the runway, AND quite a lot of the dirt once the runway ran out (see the dust puffing up just before he takes off, he was OFF the tarmac by then).

I have seen that video before, but still amazed that plane used all the runway.

They've built a big concrete wall at that point now, but I don't think it would stop a giant aeroplane! There's a very busy road a few feet beyond the fence (Pialligo Ave), which carries a huge amount of traffic to/from eastern NSW, Queanbeyan, Wamboin, Bungendore, the coast etc.

Thought I'd whack these up in here, shots taken from Amy Johnson Drive at the east end of YPDN RAAF on runway 29. F-16's and F/A-18's are part of Operation Pitch Black which is Australia's largest military exercise. The F-16's are from the Thai Air Force, F/A-18's are Aussies. Jetstar A-320 also spotted on final. Click for larger smile
