i worry more about the V8 ute tradies on Ginniderra Drive in this kind of weather. Why does every light change mean that you need to dump the clutch and do a wheel spin?

Should get a nice dusting in the Alps tonight, perisher is currently sitting on the deepest base atm compared to the other resorts. Would be great to get a coldy t'storm tonight in town, would get up for it at 3am, man i'm storm deprived!

Yep, looks like pre-frontal instability storm-things, a nice preamble! A storm would be magic. I've had a few actually up at the snow, while teaching. They close the chairlifts which are usually still full of people. They close them for the lightning.

I love seeing lines of "good drivers" tailgating each other on wet roads, like mother duck with her line of ducklings. When they ram into each other though, it is the road's fault. They need to upgrade the road.

Edit: sun has come out here, so it's storms. Hope more come and keep coming! Lots of nice puddles around.

The front's reached Wagga then? With storms. Sounds like it should be with us soonish then... is it windy? I guess that cold stuff (I can see the sat graphic here to the right!) is pushing it strongly.

Maybe people feel the need to drop the clutch and get away as quick as they can when the lights go green because the next set of traffic lights have this habit of going red before you get a chance to get to that intersection after waiting so long at the last intersection. Otherwise you will be stuck at the next intersection waiting and waiting and waiting.......if they make it so the lights at the next intersection remained green long enough for those at the previous intersection to make if after their lights go green within a reasonable period of time, people wouldn't need to spin their tyres (wet or dry). Traffic light designers really have got a lot to answer for sometimes.......

Anyway, I would like to see some snow in the city before this winter is out. So far, we are still barely touching –5°C at the best of times and we're nearly in the middle of winter.

Isn't -5C about as low as it gets in the Canberra CBD in a typical winter? Just be thankful you get negative temperatures at all!

Anyway, some nice chilly minima on the cards for the tablelands (and even the coast) next week that's for sure.

It does get lower. It gets down to –7°C and even –8°C here on rare occasions.

Hmmm! Just as I was reading the above few posts, WHOOSH. OK, rain is raining. Place has already had a fair bit, there's significant puddles up here, and the ground was spongey, but I was mucking about bleeding off first flush water (the cock is on a slope, naturally) and forgot to check gauge.

There's a warm wet N/NW breeze, 19 km/hr ish, and it has been drizzling lightly, until about 10 seconds ago.

Tracker shows some lightning closing in on the ACT from the west, we'll see if it makes it over the ranges, reckon it will, it's really muggy outside.

As for screeching tyres, I've never felt the need, except when doing a quick U-turn on a country road (rear wheel drive is good for that).

Oh yeah! Send that rain down!

The Goldenfields Way Hwy at Old Junee has been closed to light traffic in the last half hour by Junee Shire and Police due to floodwaters over the road....Apparently some heavy falls have been recorded earlier tonight.
Rain periods have eased here now with 19.4 mm having been received
Happy trails !

I've just returned from there Goody and I'll tell you what, there's a hell of a lot of water headed your way!!!

Even under the cover of darkness, you could see paddocks and paddocks under water. At it's peak, probably a total of 1.5-2km of the Hwy was underwater (in segments) with an average depth of 300mm. Even the Temora Rd out of Junee was almost closed.

A fair bit of the wetland in town (behind the Hospital) is underwater too. Pretty good from what looked like an average event!

Hi bigwilly !

Just looked out my window here in the dawn light and can see the reflection of the Houlaghans Ck in flood... If all the fences are gone I might take the kayak to the Alan McKewan Bridge and see if I can do a bridge to bridge at Wallacetown. There must have some huge falls Junee and Temora way. I had 21mm but at one stage a lightning bolt CG I witnessed out my window last night up Old Junee way gave us a brown out and zeroed the total at that time.

Do you know if the water got into the new Hospital ???
Happy trails

Missed out on all the heavy falls here with 14.7mm recorded and 23.2mm at the airport. I could see the storms and lightning out north, but it was nice to walk home in a downpour with the odd bit of CC lightning.

Hot morning down here and forecast downgraded from 'rain' to 'possible shower or two'. Good to see the snow in Jindabyne though.

BOM really bullish about the upcoming cool snap with a 5C minimum forecast for Sydney city on Tuesday. Looking forward to it after this recent warmth.

I ended up with 10mm from the event. Nice, but not big. Puddles have just about sunk into the ground now. didn't get any pyrotechnics, ranges must have done for them.

Sunny morning with a bit of a wind blowing, still from the NW which is odd at the end of a system. It's 12c outside, and 15c inside in the shade, and 23c in the sun!

And that is that.

Hi Goody!

No, nothing got into the hospital (and it shouldn't either! I'm currently involved in assessing the flood behaviour around it), but there was a hell of a lot of water coming through town. Do you know the little concrete weir on Park Lane Dam? That was running at 500-600mm deep!

We had a huge rainfall too: 56mm. Shows just how much difference there can be over only a few 10s of km's. Wagga ended up with 23mm at the airport and Temora had 9mm.

We're heading into Wagga this morning; can't wait to see Houlaghan's Creek in flood for the second time this year!

Hi bigwilly

Sounds like Junee got the Lions share this time ...The Ag & Vet business in town had reports by farmers this morning that falls ranged from 40 out Illabo way to between 50 and 70 mm over the Junee township. Glad to hear the water did not get into the new Hospital as everyone in town is waiting for it to happen.

The Flash flood in the creek my way is certainly that as it is going down very quickly ...It peaked sometime last night at a high not seen here for years.

I decided not to try and do a bridge to bridge with the water falling so fast (next time)...If the boat goes under an unbroken fence wire I would be wiped off and may get caught up in tangled fencing under the surface. I am reminded of a time back in the 50's when a car was washed off the road near our Lane ...You can still see the old causeway there today where it happened. Sadly then one person was drowned in the creek near to our house.

By far the coldest night of the year here this morning -4.7deg, everything is frozen solid and white as snow, best frost here in 2 years. No doubt there will be frozen puddles and frost in shady forest areas today all day until sunset.
