I am curious as to why the weatherzone rainfall stats do not match up with the BOM stats for Canberra airport. Are weatherzone useing a different source for their stats?

There are currently two sites operating in parallel at Canberra Airport (70014 (old) and 70351(new)). Both sites are available on the Bureau's daily observations page ('Canberra' is 70351, 'Canberra Airport' is 70014); the current reports on the front page are from 70351. I'm guessing that Weatherzone are still using 70014.

(Having a comparison of this type is standard practice when there is a site move - preferably for 5 years or so but I don't know if we can convince the airport to hold off that long before developing the old site).

Ho ho, they'll have an office building on it before you can blink. They want ot carpet every scrap of the airport with income-generating development. I swear they are eyeing off the runway, it's not paying its way.

Blair, I notice the Canberra obs page for the monthly rainfall has dropped the total back to 16.6mm, which drops the 39mm we had on the 13th. This amount was shown till about a week ago and has also come of the YTD total as well. Is there a gauge reason for the change?

That seems strange. I'm on holidays at the moment but will check it out when I get back.

All rainfall stats are lower all over the country if you follow BoM. We are currently at 415mm according to BoM but my gauge reads 465mm and we are 7kms from the airport. Albury airport had a bigger discrepancy last year that was to be looked into by the BoM but was never revealed? I suspect a conspiracy!

Mate the BOM still have us sitting over 400mm YTD but the WZ stats say nearly 70mm less after taking about 45mm off this months total which they initially had in there.

I'm guessing that Weatherzone still takes its feed from the old site (70014) whereas the Bureau daily obs pages use the new site (70351). 70014 had 32.8mm listed in our database for that day but there is a note 'from METAR' which suggests there may have been a fault with the normal daily observations (the minimum temperature is also missing).

Thanks for the reply Blair, I had forgotten to check it. The WZ figure is about 80mm out in comparison to the BOM, again last week it totally dropped Sunday mornings 26mm. I really dont take it into account now as it is so out.
