This is my perspective:
Interesting article in The Australian, Monday 29th of August 2016, page 10:

Quote:
We all have an inner critic telling us what we ‘should’ do. It is important to listen to it.

The idea [I would think] is: I will not ‘should’ upon myself.

‘Should’ – One attempts to motivate oneself with should and shouldn’t, as if one has to be whipped and punished before one is expected to do anything. It can lead to guilt; directing ‘should’ statements towards others – can lead one to feel annoyance, anger, frustration or resentment. Reading the above in relation to the word ‘should’ would, to my mind, reinforce a vicious cycle.

If it is thought the exact and pertinent meanings of words in every-day language do not have actual real world meanings, and are interchangeable, I think that idea needs some attention. It is apparent as attribution bias – saying things off-hand as if the true meaning of words spoken can be waived, or not investigated thoroughly.

A thorough investigation might reveal more understanding, and therefore less need to use coarse language or inappropriate/vitriolic labels.

I thought I’d post this to raise awareness, if nothing else.

I red your whole post again.

There will be consequences either way, it's how we deal with them that matters.

Whether ironic or not, the only real way to problem-solve, recover and find resolutions to issues in the modern world is through facts: objectivity smile . My view is objectivity is not cold, hard logic -- it is emotional, social, logical, understanding, compassionate all in one.

I said at the beginning that this thread was less for passing judgement and more for providing smile .

Objective thinking is all good and well but i think the problem lies in the fact that everyone thinks differently. They place different emphasis on different facets of any issue. I understand that cold hard logic is a flawed concept in that it is easy to lose our humanity and therefore it may not achieve positive results but when different people ha e different objectives we can be faced with equally large failures. Don't know if that makes sense to you.

What you have said makes sense to me in that I understand conflict may arise anyway. It’s like learning – we all learn from our mistakes (or at least that’s the most pleasant direction). We could simply agree to disagree on certain things, but then that’s life.

If one is honest and relevant and stands firmly on that ground, the odds of resolution are greatly improved.

I would add 'self reflective' to those requirements Cozmic. The ability(or maybe willingness) to look at ones own own point of view and accept it may not be 100% correct.

I would also add there may be times when not being 100% correct, or even remotely accurate is beneficial/a positive smile .

I do not think self-reflection is necessarily a "bad" thing.

To do that one probably also needs to see the woods for the trees.

Very true. The fundamental problem with trying to implement ANY ideological belief is that while some may like it , it will have to be forced on others

People can make up their own mind smile based on the information they have at hand. Whether the information is enough to make a best-interests decision or not is also open to question.
