That face in the cyclonic formation is very very scary......i know it will change quickly but WOW! The forcast track has it going thru Cairns around the 4th. I would get out of there fast. The rain that will drop will be massive. Not to mention the wind damage.

Yeah looks like it's been tampered with. Not a great omen if it hasn't!

The big face is photoshopped, however the little one isn't! You can see it very briefly on the MTSAT Colour IR loop.

No photoshop, just MTSAT image from earlier today! I was looking frame by frame and found him, was first frame of the set at about 11am this morning. I kept the whole screenshot.

Don't want to freak people out! The big one looked really bad in that frame, but not the subsequent frames. I just thought that the big one put the little face into context.

Yep and now some newspaper or Yank TV will pick that up and broadcast it as the face of evil or some such nonsense and we will have everyone praying for us. Please don't pray for me i don't need it thanks.

On a brighter note rainfall forecast for Townsville next Thursday is between 100 and 150mm.

....and BoM's extended forecast...

Forecast for Thursday
Tropical Cyclone Yasi is likely to make landfall on the Queensland east coast as a large and strong system. The most likely area of crossing is again the tropical coast although the potential exists for a crossing further north or south. Storm to hurricane force winds and very heavy rainfall are likely to accompany the passage of Tropical Cyclone Yasi, and extend inland during the day to the adjacent interior. Scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms persisting over the west of the state. Scattered showers about the southeast and isolated showers over the southern interior.

I just saw the latest extended GFS. It's like an addiction, I know it's doing my head in and it's bad for my nerves. But the next 'monster' makes Yasi look just large. The real monster that GFS has progged to hit SEQ on the 15th Feb looks like a rare annular TC which just sinks slowly south without any steering influence after forming south of PNG - possibly when the MJO and monsoon trough becomes active again. We'll all be shattered if this comes off. Enough said, I'm going to seek therapy. I really can't bear to see what Yasi will do. This will be a long season, and it's really only just beginning. We're having our 2005 Atlantic hurricane season. Read about it:

Which clinic? I'll join you.

It doesn't bare thinking about there is so much going on out there. Everyone rubbishes GFS but it was the first model to pick Yasi (12th Jan) so maybe it is on to something yet again. I can show pages of people ridiculing the model (including myself I think) about its size and strength forecasts for what is now Yasi.

Inclement Weather - could you please give the link for that info about 15th Feb SEQ. I can't imagine anything bigger than Yasi - and yes, most people I know have their nerves stretched right now - but forewarned is better, many thanks.
