Hello Friends:
Here's previous weeks' weather in Mena, Arkansas:

DATE.....HIGH.......LOW........RAIN
Sep..12..84F/28.8C..67F/19.4C..---
.....13..86F/30C....60F/15.5C..---
.....14..77F/25C....64F/17.7C..0.15"/3.8mm

.....16..89F/31.6C..69F/20.5C..---
.....17..89F/31.6C..69F/20.5C..---
.....18..90F/32.2C..70F/21.1C..---

A fairly warm last full week of Summer. For this week of Sep. 12-18, Mena's Avg. Max. is 82.5F/28C with Avg. Min. of 59.7F/15.3C. An area of showers (not frontal associated) moving Southwards (much weakened upon reaching my area) caused the light raintotal on the 14th. A dry Pacific cold front--evidenced only by a good deal of cloudcover--passed through on the 16th. Even though Summer in the NH arrives on the 23rd, the day/night equinox (here anyway) isn't until the 26th (that day the Sunrise for Mena is 7:08AM with a 7:08PM Sunset). Heard some good thunder rumbles as a T-shower cell was just to my south on the 18th. Otherwise, the week was fairly tranquil and unremarkable; and I am quite enjoying the warmth. For today--Sunday the 19th--our Sunrise was at 7:03AM with a Sunset of 7:18PM. Forecast for upcoming week calls for continued warm temperatures with scant rainchances.

Wishing ALL an Awesome Week~~~Wet Snow

Looks like the tranquil weather pattern will become more active soon, as we in the NH transition from Summer to Autumn/Fall.

Late September Greetings Friends:
Here's previous weeks' weather in Mena, Arkansas:

DATE......HIGH.......LOW........RAIN
Sept..19..92F/33.3C..65F/18.3C..---
......20..92F/33.3C..62F/16.6C..---

......24..77F/25C....69F/20.5C..0.55"/13.9mm
......25..76F/24.4C..62F/16.6C..---

Late-Summer warmth early-week with (right-on-cue) cooler conditions early-Autumn late-week (Autumn/Fall arrived on the 23rd). Passage of a Pacific cold front caused the AM showers on the 24th. (A Canadian cold front passed earlier today [Sun.] with cloudy, chilly and drizzly conditions and the temperatures only in the mid-60sF/~17-18C--BRRRR!). Fairly humid mid-week before the frontal passage. The Maximum on the 24th was achieved at 12:01AM and about 4PM; Overall Low-abt. 10:20PM-listed for the 24th; Overall Low-abt. 11:42PM-listed for the 25th. Still a fairly tranquil weather pattern which I suspect will become more active the further we transition into Fall. Forecast for upcoming week calls for rebounding temperatures and fairly dry conditions through late-week. For this week--Sept. 19-25--Mena's Avg. Max. is 80.7F/27C with Avg. Min. of 57.7F/14.2C.

Early October Greetings Friends:
Here's previous weeks' weather in Mena, Arkansas:

DATE......HIGH.......LOW........RAIN
Sept..26..65F/18.3C..57F/13.8C..TRACE
......27..71F/21.6C..47F/8.3C...---
......28..79F/26.1C..45F/7.2C...---

Oct....1..76F/24.4C..57F/13.8C..---
.......2..78F/25.5C..46F/7.7C...---

This week started unseasonably chilly with gradually warming temperatures. The light sprinkles on the 26th were due to passage of a Canadian cold front (that day felt very chilly, especially with the cloudcover, drizzle and cool NW wind); another dry Canadian cold front passed on the 30th. The lower humidity levels made for some good daily temperature spreads. Otherwise, the afternoons were pleasant for just about any outdoor activity. With the shorter daylight times (sunset now before 7PM), I notice the leaves on some local trees just starting to change color. The crisp mornings do feel somewhat refreshing. For this week of Sept. 26-Oct. 2, Mena's avg. max. is 78.7F/25.9C with Avg. Min. of 55F/12.7C. Very dry lately--really no mention of any rain for the upcoming week--that coupled with low humidities and gusty NW winds have caused a Red Flag Warning to be issued for my area today (Sunday). More cooler air is spilling into this part of the US and Mena's minimum in the morning (Monday) could be below 40F/below 4C (near Daily Record Low Minimum-territory) and some northern Arkansas valleys might even drop to the freezing mark. (I'm not quite ready for such chilly weather just yet). Temperatures (maximums) for upcoming week will start out chilly and gradually recover as the week progresses.

Wishing ALL A Magnificent Week~~~Wet Snow

Hello Friends:

Well, we're not even 2 weeks into Fall and my area is already in the grip of an unseasonably chilly airmass. Mena's top yesterday (Sunday) was only 65F/18.3C (normal top for date is 78F/25.5C). The minimum this (Monday) morning was a cold 38F/3.3C (this Tied the Rec. Min. for Date set in 1984; normal minimum for date is 53F/11.6C). The coldest morning minimum that I saw among Arkansas' normal reporting stations was 32F/0C at Evening Shade (Sharp County), Jessieville (Garland County) & Sheridan (Grant County). According to weather.com, the earliest freezing minimum for Mena is 32F/0C on October 7, 1978. Because of the very low humidity and dry vegetation, my area is in a Red Flag Warning (Elevated Fire Danger) and Polk County is also under a Countywide Burn Ban--with not much relief in sight. Thankfully, this airmass will modify and towards weeks' end, our maximums should be above 80F/26C+ (now that's more like it!)

Kind Wishes & Take Care~~~BRRRRRR--Wet (& Chilly) Snow

Folks:

Just as an addendum to above post:

Since I've been keeping up with the Watches/Warnings for Mena/Polk County--from January 2003--the Frost Advisory which was issued for Monday (Oct. 4th), was the earliest that such an Advisory has been issued for my area in that time (previous earliest--since 2003--was Oct. 24 in 2006). The minimum this (Tuesday) morning was 37F/2.7C and another Frost Advisory is in effect for early AM Wednesday. At least the days are getting gradually warmer.

Going to "rug up" (as ya'll like to say) again tonight~~~Wet Snow

This week started off pretty chilly with rebounding temperatures through the week. The very low humidity levels caused some healthy daily temperature spreads. Most of the days featured sparking clear skies with nary a cloud in sight. Pretty "boring" tranquil weather pattern, really. Some good news as we've a 50% chance of T-showers for Monday (Pacific cold front approaches); temperatures should be near seasonable levels. We've had no measureable rain since September 25, so this is our longest dryspell of the year so far; we've had less than 1"/25mm rain since September 12th.

Has Mena seen the last of days above 90F this year, or can it still get that warm this late in the year?

PS, in the past 37 years of records at Birmingham airport, 32C/90F has been reached just 13 times.

Hello Steve:
Sorry for late reply, but I'm typing from a friends' house as my PC is in the shop. My weather records are not at hand ATM, but Mena has likely seen the last 90F maximum this year--although we have seen tops just above 80F lately. I'll have to look at the weather.com site later--when I get my PC back--to let you know the latest that Mena has had a top of at least 90F.

Hello Folks:
Sorry for the lateness but my PC is still in the shop and I'm typing this from a friends' house.
Here's previous weeks' weather in Mena, Arkansas:

DATE.....HIGH.......LOW........RAIN
Oct..10..84F/28.8C..47F/8.3C...---
.....11..74F/23.3C..57F/13.8C..0.15"/3.8mm
.....12..71F/21.6C..55F/12.7C..---
.....13..74F/23.3C..55F/12.7C..---

.....15..81F/27.2C..44F/6.6C...---
.....16..82F/27.7C..43F/6.1C...---

Continued very dry here & the lower humidity made for some fairly large--for my area--daily temperature spreads. The rain on the 15th--only rainday so far this month--was due to the passage of a Pacific cold front. A dry in my area--good deal of cloudcover & winds switching to the North--Canadian cold front came through on the 13th. One of the larger daily temperature spreads in Arkansas (last Thursday) was in the nearby town to the south of DeQueen, Arkansas (Sevier County)--which had a top that day of 87F/30.5C after a morning minimum of 38F/3.3C. Other towns in Arkansas--the last several days--have had daily temperature spreads of upwards of 40F difference of more. More examples of the dryness in Arkansas in October: This month, Fort Smith, Arkansas has copped only 0.11"/2.7mm rain, while Little Rock has only gotten 0.70"/17.7mm rain in October. Thankfully, we've a pretty decent chance of T-showers--as a Pacific cold front approaches--for Tuesday and Wednesday. The top temperatures for this week should continue fairly warm with rebounding minimums.

Wishing All a Most Pleasant Week~~~Wet Snow

Hello Freeze:
Yes, the first freezing minimum of Fall will likely be before much longer--it really depends on when the first good chunk of colder air decides to plunge Southwards.

Over the past 10 years (2000-2009), the date of the first freezing minimum of Fall in Mena is November 4th. During that 10-year period, the earliest first freezing date was October 9th (2000) and the latest first freezing date is November 25th (2004), so the date of the 1st freezing Fall minimum can vary widely.
According to weather.com, the earliest Fall freezing minimum for Mena was October 7th in 1978.
More local trees are starting to look Spectacular in the multi-colored Fall foliage.

Hello Mike M.: I'm not able to post pics, but you'll find a PLETHORA of Arkansas Fall Foliage pics if you do a websearch (yahoo/google). My area is in the Ouachita's in Arkansas (Fall Foliage pics in the Ozarks--N Arkansas/S Missouri--are Spectacular as well).

Hello Folks:
Here's previous weeks' weather in Mena, Arkansas:

DATE.....HIGH.......LOW........RAIN
Oct..17..82F/27.7C..46F/7.7C...---
.....18..82F/27.7C..54F/12.2C..---
.....19..68F/20C....56F/13.3C..0.80"/20.3mm
.....20..75F/23.8C..50F/10C....---
.....21..82F/27.7C..46F/7.7C...---
.....22..77F/25C....56F/13.3C..---
.....23..72F/22.2C..66F/18.8C..0.85"/21.5mm

Finally had a couple good T-shower dumps this week--courtesy of the passage of a couple Pacific cold fronts. The rain felt refreshing (ending the Countywide Burn Ban on the 19th) and the thunder rumbles were great to hear as well. Felt chilly on the 19th with the dampness and daytime temperatures only in the mid 60sF/17-18C. Overall High-12:01AM and Overall Low-abt. 11:23PM-listed for the 19th; The maximum on the 23rd was achieved at 12:01AM and around 12:10PM. Lower humidity levels contributed for more fairly wide temperature spreads on a few more days in the week. Feels fairly Springlike yesterday & today (Monday) as we are having mild, muggy conditions and fairly gusty S/SW winds. Even saw a mosquito today and saw a dandelion in the yard yesterday. I will enjoy these warm days while we have them. Hopefully any potential Severe Weather will miss my area. It appears an F-0 tornado hit near Little Rock the other night. A report on the flash-flood tragedy at Camp Albert Pike--a few months back--cites an error by the Park for not posting Flash Flood Danger signs in the park/camping area. Upcoming week calls for more T-shower chances early-week with lower maximums and minimums as a fairly powerful Pacific cold front approaches. This front is expected to dump FEET of snow over the Sierras & Rockies and give parts of California some hefty rain totals.

Wishing ALL a Most Serene Week~~~Wet Snow
