I am up to 830mm for the year, am now wondering if we can crack the 1000mm for the year? The Airport is on 835.4mm.

Hi Denise

What you can see it a very decent upper low across E Aus. An upper low has cold air in it up high in the atmosphere - so combine that with warm, moist air coming in from the Pacific and where they meet you get decent rain.

As you can see the upper system pulls upper winds down from the N on its eastern flank - again these have got some good moisture in them to add even more water to the mix!

Cheers
Kev

Not sure Denise, but I heard yesterday it's close to 100days that the dam has been spilling.

Very wet night here last night, our dry creek bed is dry no more. We had just over 12mm of rain since 9am yesterday!

According to CQ News :
"longest continuous overflow event occurred between December 1975 and April 1976 for 108 days"

Its been spilling for roughly 80 days now, if the story in the paper is correct. On the 5th Nov it had been spilling for 53 days.

8mm for the 24hr
It is lightly raining again here now. I am thinking I should stay home as the weather looks as though it's going to get exciting.

Kymm the Dam started spilling on the 10th September see link
http://www.themorningbulletin.com.au/story/2010/09/10/fairbairn-dam-spills-over/

So the dam has been spilling for 81days now. So you were spot on. Only need another 28 days to better the record. The way we are going I don't think that will be a problem.

Ants going nuts here too Kymm, and lots of froggies calling this evening. We just had another shower pass through, not much on our radar though.

Friday and Saturday is starting to look interesting for those around Capricornia and Emerald

From todays Extended State Forecast http://www.bom.gov.au/qld/forecasts/state.shtml
"Rain areas are therefore expected to extend from the Maranoa and southern central parts into southeastern districts, with moderate to possibly locally heavy falls contracting east with the trough" "A surface trough is expected to develop off the Capricorn coast, with SE to NE winds possibly strengthening about the coast between about Yeppoon to Double Island Point as a result"

Looks interesting Sandfly. I am meant to be going to Rocky in the morning to drive my parents car back, but I am questioning whether or not I should go. I dont have a good track record in my parents car on that road as it, without adding rain, a 5 month old baby and driving on my own into it aswell! Might see what this afternoon brings, and make a decision in the morning.
