As a follow up we managed to get 60mm in total Friday night. Sadly falls weren't wide spead across the coast though.

You SE QLD'ers might like to know that Wide Bay and Burnett looks quite reasonable for storms tomorrow (Monday)...i'm amazed there isn't a thread on it in breaking weather!

-4 LI's, -13 temps at 500, reasonable turning of winds from the low to mid levels, a bit of wind speed too, plus nothing too wrong with the moisture profile should equal the storms that you guys deserve!

lol thanks Jake - I was only alerted to it by an sms from AC late last night! "Did you look at the storm potential for SE QLD? lol"

Sad thing was that I couldn't inform him of my thoughts because I was out of credit frown

That sure was a mean lookin cell over you yesterday Jeffro mate.

And to do a u-turn today, it was that dry out at work practically everything I touched shocked me with a static charge, in the end I just zapped passers-by for the fun of it, until I copped a belt in the nether regions, no need to go into detail shocked
Has been very windy & dusty out @ wacol, every bit of rubbish from the factorys around seemed to work its way into our own.. on the way home just before I could see what seems to be a fire somewhere over the bay islands? There was a nice Pyro-Cu sitting above it, the smoke plume itself started to anvil out.
Looking in the rear view mirror, there was another massive plume going up from behind Mt Coot-tha.

Winds still from the W as i type, but slowly turning SW.

Well done Jeff, that storm looked like an absolute ripper from where I was at Sunnybank at the time, it had massive boiling updrafts but strangely enough I couldn't see the anvil from where I was. The windshear yesterday was exceptional with 60kn @ 500 which certainly would of helped the storm a bit. I was considering chasing but it was moving far too quickly and was offshore within no time at all.

Michael

A healthy 26mm from that cell that moved through here Monday night, along with some small pea size hail, and some strong wind gusts. Lightning was absolutely brilliant, CG's everywhere throughout mainly the beginning of it, then some nice crawlers afterwards. It's about bloody time too!!!!

The first good fall to occur here in southwestern brissy since december last year. That 3.4 mm was exceptionally welcome, and the smell of rain on dry earth was magnificent! It would have layered the dust somewhat and provided some much needed moisture perhaps for the next event due midweek. Hopefully more to come for this area that is seeing near record low rainfall totals.

Also something to note is the unseasonaly cool minimum temps that the SE has been lucky enough to pick up. A big difference to this time last year.

No kidding, it felt like a bloody freezer here this morning about 4am, for the first time in months I had to look for my doona!
Recorded a low of 10.2 degrees here just on 6am.

Far out Dale yes thats getting down there!
Its generally the trend each year...Easter is our last skiing weekend (inland parts) due to the cooler air temps...I noticed the Seawater at Goldcoast is still 22c ATM! Plus we are still swiming in our pool but its getting nippy now, i was looking at solar heating from the states for $160 but it takes 6 weeks to arrive. They claim to boost water temps by 6to10c at the end of the day> not bad realy cause thats when we swim. that would make my pool 27c ATM.
Could get some light rain tonight from the Upper Trough and there also seems to be a southerly change (cold pool) moving up the coast this should enhance showers in the SE!

From a previous event, I've just got an old roll of film back from the lightning intensive day of Jan 21, so I've added them to the web site... bottom half of page two of this day .

Cheers,
Marty.
