The Se Winds in SE Qld. surly have delivered some nice coastal falls over the past 2 days with more set to come. GC seaway picked up 33mm over night with sustained 25knt SE winds these winds have also pumped up the Sea Swell with beaches starting to close from today due to dangerous sweeps. Waves to 3meters should peak tomorrow giving the board riders a real treat!!!

Hmm looks like we are in for a rather cool wet Sunday and Monday folks. The swell along Qld.s SE Coast has been BIG with 2-3 meters all week. Water temp. is a reasonable 23C, which is warmer than the av day time temp. Is that an ECL I see GFS going for off the ne nsw coast on Teusday / wednesday??? Cheers Jeff.

....Fugger me at how cold it is even here at The Gold coast ATM, about 7c outside . Today at 130pm we had the cold pool move over us which gave a line a showers and very strong 40knt wind gusts. The clouds realy did look like snow clouds hehehe. There have been reports of snow at Stanthorpe today and a flury of hail and heavy rain in Toowoomba. I just looked at Moree sounding ,..... OMG its INSANE!!! 0c at 880MB and -32C at 500..... Cheers Jeff

Yep the models do look good... it would be nice!! It has been cold! Referring to minimum temps, my min on Thursday morning was 2.0C which seemed unusually cold, as Amberley had 3.5C. I suspect we were slightly protected from the breeze. There was no frost on the grass, but there was on the car windscreen, and on the lawns at the lower end of the street and the valleys around Forest Lake - Oxley. This morning my min was 2.9C with no frost but again there was a light frost further down the street. Currently it's 7.4C at my place, 7.2C Amberley and 9.4C at Brisbane. No breeze to speak of. It's a 'warm' 6.0C at Armidale. James

Those temps that I put in my last post... they were close to the minimum temps, as cloud quickly moved over. It's been a cloudy but still the warmest in several days - up to about 21C. radar shows a fair amount of shower activity just coming onto the Sunshine Coast now. The best we've had is misty drizzle from low-mid level cloud. This may all change in the next several days with showers, then rain forecast up to at least Wednesday! We need it!! James

Topic: SeQld Upper Low and Surface Low 27-06-05>01-07-05 JEFF.H.
Weather Freak Member # 5595
posted 27-06-2005 19:20 -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Seeing as my last Topic was closed lets clarify on the "Topic" and "coverage" area shall we. I along with other people think the topic " East coast rain" ect is different to what I am talking about. When someone says the east coast what are they talking from Rockhampton to Tasmania how many 1000's of KM is that?????? Come on moderators give us a break!!! There is hardly mention of a low in NSW forcast and take a look at your own synoptic maps and comentry! Like the football score in the 3rd game realy Maroons will win by how many. . STATE FORECAST (Queensland) for Monday night and Tuesday Isolated showers across most of the eastern half of the state. Showers gradually increasing to rain over southeast districts with some moderate to heavy falls likely. Isolated showers and thunderstorms over the sub tropical interior, contracting gradually eastwards on Tuesday. Fine in the west. Moderate SE to NE winds, fresh at times along the east coast. The onshore airflow from these highs is expected to direct showers into east coast districts until mid week. The developing upper trough now over western Queensland will move slowly east initially and instability ahead of this system should produce some showers across the eastern half of the state tonight and Tuesday with some isolated thunderstorms over the subtropical inland. By Tuesday showers will have increased to rain in southeast districts with moderate to heavy falls likely. During Wednesday and Thursday the upper trough is expected to move more quickly eastwards across the state spreading fine, cool and mostly clear conditions to the bulk of the interior. Some thundery showers however should persist in the southeast inland under an upper low associated with the upper trough. This upper low is expected to produce a surface low to the north of Fraser Island by Wednesday evening and very strong winds, rough seas and heavy swells are likely to develop along the southern coast. The surface low is expected to then move gradually south contracting the very strong winds and rain toward the southeast corner during Thursday. Some showers will persist in southeast districts on Thursday under the upper low, these becoming confined to near the southern border by Friday.
This system has already produced falls up to 50mm and also inland storms with the lightning tracker showing them up well.... 3 cells even reaching Red intensity.I am almost tempted to drive 500km west to see whats happening out there tonight / tomorrow. Here on the Gold and sunshine coasts there have been good falls last night and today. posted 27-06-2005 19:27 -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Hey Jeff!!!!! right on mate...
Been some decent falls here in Mackay too with some incredibly heavy showers coming off the ocean... still only ~15mm today though. Hopefully SE Qld receives quite a bit tomorrow, the dams really need it.

posted 27-06-2005 19:48 -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Thanks for starting another Jeff. I think this event is unique to the SE and should have a devoted thread. While the system is likely to effect a large portion of the east coast I'd still like to have reports, updates and discussion relating to events in my area.
Already we've had 40mm here, winds have strengthened considerably over the last 3 hours with gusts of up to 30knots. We're in for an interesting few days of weather -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- From: Sunshine Coast, SE QLD | Registered: Dec 2004 | IP: Logged |

Your thread gets closed you just bring it here, Good on you Jeff. I also think another thread for South east queensland is a great idea. I woke up to howling winds here at buderim. Very dark, squally heavy showers, and very strong winds.

TOP PRIORITY FOR IMMEDIATE BROADCAST SEVERE WEATHER WARNING for Abnormally High Tides/Dangerous Surf, Local Flooding and Damaging Winds. for people in coastal, island and adjacent mountain areas between Sandy Cape and Coolangatta Issued at 2:30 pm on Wednesday 29 June 2005
Synoptic Situation: A deep trough lies off the central Queensland coast. A 1032 hPa high in the southwest Tasman Sea extended a firm ridge onto the southern Queensland coast. A low pressure system is expected to develop to the near north of Fraser Island this evening, and move southwards, parallel to the coast during Thursday.
Damaging winds with gusts to 90 km/h are expected to develop about the exposed coast and mountain areas overnight and Thursday.
Heavy rain has led to some local flooding today. Areas of heavy rain are expected to redevelop overnight and Thursday, which may lead to local flooding.
Dangerous surf conditions will develop overnight, and abnormally high tides may lead to some local salt-water inundation in ocean beach side areas on Thursday's high tides. Let's hope BOM are on the money and it doesn't form too far East. I'm less than 100m from the hightide mark so I'll be the first to report any changes in the surf conditions.

Bit of a surprise (for me anyway) buildup around the place this afternoon - some heavy showers approaching the coast on radar now and moderate rain falling here from the southern edge of a cell to my NW. Several "cold air Cb" type anvils visible on the drive home from work this afternoon. No thunder here (the cells around Beaudesert look more intense though) but it would be nice if they would be so kind as to intensify off the coast and provide a nice light show over the next few hours.

Some photos of that cells that tracked through the Northern Rivers. I got a bit caught out, spending too much time watching from a distance before moving in for the kill, and so I missed getting in front of it. Oh well! Can’t complain too much for a July storm day… Gustfront begins to develop near Tucki: Gustfront as the storms intensity peaks near Wardell: Decaying storm moving out to sea at Ballina: Cheers, Dave

O wow Dave,,, sweet July cell pics mate, well done! Mmm I like no. 3:P Hey M.B. , thats a great rain rate from those cells, certainly clean the leaves out of the gutter:P Yeah there were a few nice towers around this afternoon and I must admit it did look better to my south towards NSW, but things did pick up around Boonah / Beauy area as Bodie had mentioned. I even kept checking outside to the west for some CC's or even CG's as the multi cells reached orange and red on radar, one would think some pea sized hail also fell from these cells. As they moved east they also weakened and we picked up a heavy shower at 6:30. Come on spring... I think we could be in for some BIG storms given the wet winter thus far. Cheers Jeff.H.
