Ohhhh Here We Go, The Converged Convection area over Gympie and Rainbow Beach will remain for a few hrs yet There is a solid inflow still present here, However MTSAT clearly showing a shift to the South towards the Sunshine Coast area! Apart from the obvious on radar , there is a new area of convection forming to the NE of Brisbane it is still sliding SW with a very significant amount of NE inflow feed scud building behind this.

The Bureau's airport briefing for Brisbane Airport issued earlier this morning sums up the situation:

COMPLEX SITUATION WITH AN UPPER LOW CURRENTLY OFFSHORE NEAR GLADSTONE
BEING THE MAIN CAUSE OF WEATHER ACROSS THE REGION. A STRONG DEEP AND
VERY MOIST E/SE FLOW WRAPPING AROUND THIS LOW IS CAUSING A VERY
UNSTABLE ATMOSPHERE WITH RAIN AND STORMS OVER THE AREA. IN ADDITION A
SURFACE TROUGH EXPECTED TO MOVE ONSHORE THROUGH THE AREA SOMETIME
THIS MORNING WITH AN INCREASE IN RAIN AND STORMS. TIMING THIS
MOVEMENT IS EXTREMELY DIFFICULT WITH ALL MODELS AT VARIANCE AND ALSO
TIMING OF ONSET OF HEAVY WEATHER. HOWEVER, RAIN EXPECTED TO INTENSIFY
EARLY MORNING AND THROUGH THE PERIOD WITH A CHANCE OF STORMS AT ANY
TIME.

THUNDERSTORM POTENTIAL:
CAN EXPECT STORMS AT ANY TIME, MORE LIKELY AFTER 23Z

OTHER POSSIBILITIES:
COMPLEX SITUATION SO EXPECT SOME AMENDS DURING THE NEXT 24HRS, WITH
PERIODS WHERE THE CONDITIONS MAY BE BETTER THAN EXECTED.

Hi new to forums, long time lurking. I'm a weather noob with alot to learn. Am in toowoomba where it is currently still dry though we have a forcasted 40-80ml. 20ml is causing road closures in the area so no doubt if we get all that rain today there will be more closures. Especially the range where we have had a few mudslides! Not to good at all.

Good start for Brisbane Airport with 20mm in the first half hour of the "rain day". Already 20% of the way there (to 100mm) and only 2% of the time used up.

Raining moderately here in Stafford and has been since 9am. Water flowing everywhere already - under the house is slightly creek-like. Probably around 20mm here since 9am too. Going to be a wet wet day.

Just in the process of uploading my Wivenhoe video from yesterday on to Youtube. I feel however that it will become fairly meaningless with a day or 2 given what is about to inflow to this dam.

The Stanley River flowing into Somerset is clearly going to go into major flood as I would suspect is the Brisbane River above Wivenhoe. Once the rate of inlow into Wivenhoe from these 2 sources increases dramatically I would imagine it won't be more than 24 hrs before they up the release rate from the dam.

The interesting thing is I cant imagine the release rate at Wivenhoe has ever exceeded 1500m3/sec previously so if they do have to increase it were heading into new territory. Thinking of heading up there again later today but I'm concerned the roads on either side may be cut if they do up the release rate.

Look at the rises on the Stanley and Brisbane Rivers, Stanley river rising rate of almost 1 metre / hour currently massive volumes of water heading down into Somerset and Wivenhoe dams watch the dam levels rise now , will be interesting to see rate of rise in Wivenhoe even with flood gates open , currently sitting at 68.55m concern will set in when it gets above about 71m and there are still massive inflows in the catchment.
Also of note that currently little falls in the Western side of Upper Brisbane catchment Emu Creek , Cooyar Creek etc wait till they start pumping in some good flows . Also Bremer catchment will come into play later today and tomorrow when good falls start up SW of Ipswich will not take much say 100mm to returm Bremer to major flood levels. Game on this time i feel for Ipswich/Brisbane areas.

I have to say i was starting to get a little doubtful that the system was going to come off - until about an hr ago. Very heavy rain , at times white out conditions and the wind has picked up quite significantly in the past half hr. I live 10 houses from the water so might go have a look down waterfront soon. I have tickets to the Channel nine flood benefit tonight lol - could be very interesting!
