Rain totals have back off a little in the last couple of days/runs. Liawenee is a bit outside the heaviest of the rain, but should just be cold enough Sat/Sun for snow, marginal at times on sat. Looks good for 15-35mm from tomorrow through Monday. So, being conservative, maybe 10-20cm of snow. Possibly more if the models revert to the rain in earlier runs + we've been getting the mid to upper end of the BOM's forecast range lately.

Speaking of Liawenee, been a cold week up there, but reached a weekly low of -9.4 this morning.

We completed a run of frosty mornings, -1.8, -2.5, -3.1 and -3.8 since Monday. All .7 or .6 colder than the previous morning. Cloud came in this morning, so I expect that run to end today.

May was 345mm less than last year, June 120mm and July 217mm

2017
July 352mm
YTD 1416mm

2016
July 569mm
YTD 2109mm

Solid rainfall there P! Bring some further to the Southeast corner of the state! grin

Cold this morning at home dipping to -5.7C, not quite as bad as Liawenee!

Cold one again tonight! Not looking as cold as this morning with that cloud to our north, currently -1.5C frown

It's forgotten how to rain here in Hobart , only about 40 mm for the Winter so far. Looks kike nothing is going to change , 15 c and sunny here today. I see and 18 c day next week as well.
Surely now there has to be major concerns that this is quickly turning into a big big problem come September.

...speaking of which, I have compiled another list ( gee I really can't help myself sometimes... )

We have 44mm so far this winter, these are the driest winters in Hobart ( may be out on some of the figures I'll double check things at the end of the month if we get close to some sort of record )

1....50.8mm ...2006
2....58.5mm ...1957
3....65.7mm ...1940
4....66.7mm ...1965
5....73.0mm ...1999

What a funny surprise that rain was, taking a look at the Weatherzone ACCESS charts for 7-10 days ahead though, that looks really mild to me , maybe a 20c day in there?

A convergence zone? Looked to build from the north and then the winds went to the SE. Anyway, after all that Hobart got 18mm.

Ben Lomond has 30cm yesterday and 45cm in total over the weekend.

Quamby brook broke its banks over the weekend, first time it's done that this year. Overnight low of -0.1. Light to moderate cover on parts of the western tiers this morning.

Hi all, finally 18 mm great to see . Agree with Yep , could see a 20 c very soon and Thurs and next Mon a real chance. A warm period starts on Wed to Wed next week but hopefully some rain with it ? Lucky old Victoria for the snow show , just a bare old rock down this way for the season so far . Still plenty of fronts but just as they come through the Highs drop once again saying goodbye to any Winter snow.

Evening all, another boring day here weather wise forecast 12 c ended up 15 c. Springs well and truly here in this part of Australia , the 17 c days are starting to line up too. Oh well back to another 11 months of Summer conditions ahead I'd say.

Morning all, sitting just under 15c outside here in the northern suburbs. A few grey clouds around earlier but the skies are rapidly clearing. Could be the 20c day by 3:00 pm. UV is also back on the rise now which means hello Summer. After watching the forecasts from the good old BOM for a week and looking for the wet Thursday all of sudden when it gets to the day they change their mind and say a few evening showers. Probably less than a couple of mm. Why they just don't go back to looking out the window like the rest of us I'll never know. They just get everyone's hopes up for zip.

Definitely a warm spell at the moment MH2O, yesterday was mild, today looks warmer again. If it achieves 20 in Hobart today, it would be the equal earliest 20 degree August day. It reach 20.4 on the 10th of August, 1949.

However it has reached 20 twice in July. 22.1 on the 6th of July 1901 and 21 on the 30th of July 1975.

SO overall it would be the 4th earliest 20+ day. It would have to Go to go some to be the warmest August day on record, 24.5 which was record on the 26th of August 1977. There 4 instances of 22 or greater in August. The last time August reached 20 was 2012.

Anyway, should give way to wind, rain and cooler conditions tomorrow. Early model runs hinting that something much colder could arrive in the next week or two.

Let's hope so Snowies , currently around 17.6 in town and a tad warmer out here on 18.5 . Winds really picking up in the last 30 minutes with some big gusts surging. And an average of 35 kmr from the NNW .

From the BOM forecast this afternoon for the central north.

Friday 11 August
Partly cloudy. Very high (90%) chance of showers. The chance of a thunderstorm near the coast in the early morning with gusty winds. Winds northwesterly 35 to 55 km/h increasing to 50 to 70 km/h in the late evening. Overnight temperatures falling to between 4 and 8 with daytime temperatures reaching around 12.

Even the Launceston forecast has winds 40 to 60 kmh. That seems pretty strong for us up here, I can't remember the last time we had a gusts around 100 and IMO with the forecast this is quite likely. Anyone care to do some research and find what the Launceston max recorded gust is?
