Shame about the snow no show. Looked like all the activity was out at sea, just to our east. Likely to be the coldest night of the year in Hobart with a forecast minimum of 1.

Widespread reports of snow falling as low as 200m through the north this morning, last nights frosty weather and lack of wind means the inversion has kept it cold enough near the surface for precip to fall as snow. Bit unusual in Tasmania.

Lead to believe it snowed at home whilst I was at work on Monday. Temps were marginal to say the least, at 80% humidity (which it was at the time), the snow would have been melting and wet as it reached the ground. Humidity was 10-15% too high for the flakes to not melt at temps of ~2-2.5. Alternatively had the temp been 1 degree with a humidity of ~80% then the flakes would also have remained frozen. After we talked about humidity and snow SF, there are equations used in snow making that tell you the temp/humidity requirements to prevent a flake from melting.

Anyway, last night was frosty and the coldest morning of the month at -2.4. The constant wind, cloud and showers have kept the frosts away most of this month, but a number of mornings in the past 5 or 6 have been between 0 and -1.

Was a bit disappointing here last Sunday.

Bit like you said SF, the odd flake but mostly hail and sleet.

Looking forward to the next potential low level snow event...
Current MSLP and Thickness forecast for midday Monday has pretty much the entire state dropping under 524 Thickness for a brief period at that time.
Not a lot of precipitation in the forecast though.

Looks really good! The south wind will improve the prospect of showers and snow where we want them to go. BoM is already suggesting "snow covered roads" to 300m and snow falling to 250m in this morning's warnings..

Looks like a couple of cm's down to 300m tomorrow night, may not get to 300m until well after dark and it'll be a fairly short window, probably not much left in it by first light Monday. 850t's stay cold for quite a while, so there'll be some cold nights to follow.

Cold gusty wind change in. Hobart 9.4c at 3pm down 5 deg from last hour. Mt Wellington summit from 2.5 to -1.1c. Never known a year without settled snow on the lower hills of Hobart ( high suburbs ), hope tonight its low-level snow event number 1 for the year! End of week another?
