How to do you reply specifically to someone else's post within a given topic/forum? I have seen people being able to have the specific thread they are referring to come up as a 'box' (or descending boxes if there is more than one) before they add they're part on the bottom in their post. I have searched to find how to do this and can't seem to find the info (though I am sure it is staring me right in the face).

Thanks from the not so computer savvy Struth

Click on the "Reply" button of that user's post and the window will go to a full reply screen set to reply to the user's post. However the only difference it makes is that it will say [Re: ] instead of the forum name of the person who posted before you. You could also quote the user's post at the start of their post to make it more obvious that you are replying to them.

Whoops didn't quite work, sorry another quetion where exactly is the 'set to reply to users post'? I had your response underneath on the full screen mode as saying I was replying to your thread but didn't seem to actually do it when I submitted. Thanks for your patience smile

The "set to reply to user's post" I was talking about was when it went to the full screen reply.

Down the bottom of each user's post there are buttons "Reply" "Quote" Quick Reply" "Quick Quote" "Notify" and "Email Post", just click on the "Reply"/"Quick Reply" button and it'll go to a reply screen (or the quick reply box) will come up and it will be a reply to whichever user you chose to reply to with the "Reply" button smile

Specifically, I am replying to all the new users of Weatherzone who for some reason feel that being belligerent and rude is the way to go when joining in. For a year, I read and learned from Weatherzone without making a fool of myself by constantly adding comments that had already been covered or would have been answered by just reading along. This forum is about the weather and the dedicated crew of people who give their time as moderators and contributors and don't deserve the nasty, irrelevant or absurd comments that have been posted in the last several weeks. Go back to Facebook and talk to your friends or just read, but don't try to force others to get involved with your negativity, especially not when so many have had such a tough time.

Testing- yes, I was wondering how that worked, too. Thanks for starting this thread.
Nope- bear with me, will have to test this again (bit technophobic)

I still can't get it!! Cheekeymonkey, what exactly did you do? I have clicked the 'reply' button and your box appears at the bottom of my screen in the "in response to" box below but for some reason it won't "join" what I am writting when I post and no matter what I try I can't seem to get it too!

VERY confused Struth smile

Struth, try these steps:

1. When you want to quote someone (the way I did with your post above) immediately below their post, you'll see a line of words ie. Reply; Quote; Quick reply; quick quote; notify; email post. Click on Quote

2. A new window will come up with all the various smileys etc. You'll also see that person's post with
and [ /quote] at the end of their post.

3. Start your post on a new line after the words
4. Click preview post (Lower left) to see your post before submitting your post or click submit if you are happy with your post and are ready to submit it.

Note: I slightly changed the quote brackets to illustrate how to do it
