The scary thing for me is we aren't even in peak season...there is still all of February and March to go!

Thanks - still learning what influences them. Just also want to say thanks to all the knowledgable people on these forums. I've found the info on here invaluable and have passed it all on to family and friends. They've learnt to take me a little more seriously now and have all been prepared (as much as you can be) for awhile now. So thank you thank you. Please, be safe in the coming days!!!!!!!

Is it just me or have the EC & GFS finally agreed on townsville as a crossing point? Just had a look at both maps and they're very similar now.

And don't forget the MJO has recently left us, and is predicted back in around 2 weeks...

Does the MJO increase the chance of cyclone development? Or just increase strength potential?

What is interesting with that GFS map is most of the precipitation is to the North of the system, usually it's the Southern side is it not?

Anyways, I'll be watching with very keen eyes for the next week grin

latest EC

No matter where the eye passes over- Townsville/ Ayr/ Bowen/ Prossy/ Mackay- there will be destructive winds felt over an extremely large area. This system is forecast to be extremely HUGE ( not just in wind speeds- but also in area)

Would those winds be felt as far South as Brisbane area do you think?

Lets assume that map is what will happen.

Was told a theory from an old guy from fnq, about cyclones following each other. he likened it to racing car 'slip streaming' where it's easier to travel in the cleared air behind the leading car. The old guy reckoned therefore that the 2nd system sticks closer to the tracking of the first when they appear in similar waters a few days apart.

Is there anything in this "old wives (man in this case) tale? Is there actual evidence to support the supposition?

Man! Townville in firing line for two cyclone in week, this could be a worry! I remember what the damage was like when cyclone Tess hit and that was only Cat 2 Storm. Strand was smashed and castle hill was a mess. Landslides Changed the shape of that big rock taking down homes as well.

Will be an intrested week for you guys, Especially if our new developing friend follows Anthonys path. MTSAT Looks unreal. Love watching the little ones grow and develop. Brings a tear to the eye

Perhaps unrelated but sometimes in western Queensland early season storms will use the same track over several days resulting in great starts for some graziers while neighbours miss out altogether.

Does the GFS model look a little further north than the EC model, or am I just imagining things???

Night Rain, the GFS model is actually a fair bit further North than EC.
