Yeh they dropped it midday today, due that upper low above TCA, I'd say they'll be back on board again soon, conditions are slowly becoming favourable again for Anthony.

Why are there showers off the coast near Cairns and North but nothing at all on the radar neat Tville. I am thinking this Anthony is slightly above us and we are getting the rain bands from the bottom of the cyclone. Am I correct and could this thing hit further north than everyone is predicting???

When is the MJO supposed to move back over Australian Waters and wont this make even more of a chance of Severe Cyclones.

Hi DeniseEm, back in 2 weeks apparently(just saw that info in Developing Trop Low thread. Posted by LittleDavey83.)and yes i think it does improve chances of Cyclones, but have no idea why, just remember reading that somewhere.

hi denise, in the last tropical climate note, issued by the Darwin RSMC, they advised the next mjo is due thru local waters (coral sea) in mid february. the mjo doesnt have a direct impact on how 'severe' cyclones can get, but obviously can cause increase in chance of cyclonic development overall.
obviously, as we are seeing now, we dont always need an active mjo or a decent monsoonal pulse to get cyclones kicking.
if you want a read of the tropical climate note, click HERE
its reissued every tuesday, every week of the year.

also, the mjo page is HERE
and we also have an active thread on the mjo going here in the tropical forum, its probably been moved down the page with all extra threads going at the moment.
hope that helps.

The extended GFS (if you're into patterns for that is its only use) doesn't make for pretty news. It is continuing with its 'conga line' of cyclones travelling west. It seems over the next month the Coral Sea is a spawning ground for TCs.

When I ran the model looper yesterday it showed 4 cyclones/lows hitting the east coast over the next 1 1/2 weeks. Brisbane does not miss out with the last of the run hitting down this low.

Just have to see if they hold true to their predictions as the time gets closer. (Still a long way out, they can and do change) But definately showing a lot of activity.
