How absurd, the majority of deaths were a result of an intense cell with a warning time exponentially smaller than with a cyclone.

Incomparable situations.

Hi guys, just a quick question from a lurked here: I live in cairns but am due to fly out to weipa tomorrow morning with work and not due to return until Friday. If you were me would you put the trip off for a week to look after the house on a guess that cairns might be affected, or would you just go? If cairns did bear the brunt of this system would i likely be stranded in weipa unqble to get back? Am having a real dilemma here and can't sleep wondering what's the right thing to do..... Any opinions would be appreciated, cheers

dont worry mate, ya cant win. its either "as quoted above" or, when everyone from the SE bands together to help each other, you get "bloody SEQ. Nothing exists north of the Sunshine Coast...we dont get any help Blah Blah"

Its your call - if it were me I would go. Your house if damaged can be repaired. They will always find away back for you. Remember we are bushies after all.

Thanks Tom, that was my gut feeling too- Feel better knowing this isn't a stupid idea to go. Don't think it will hit us to hard in cairns anyway- all the noises are that it'll move further south not north

I wasn't talking about the deaths in Toowoomba or the Lockeyr Valley - rather the fact that with 2 days warning you still had people being pulled out of the floods as the water rose and fwits still didn't evacuate when told to do so. Have a look at the last 5 Severe Cyclones and tell me how many people died up here mate? Ever wondered why it is so few?.

From what I saw it appeared the whole bloody city was in a state of shock and took days to come to grips with it.

Immediately the whole states focus was suddenly on Brisbane and we heard nothing of teh other areas still in floods before Brisbane went under. I ask again, where are the convoys of people rushing to Rockhamton. Emerald, Dalby etc. Don't bother it appears that once again we didn't need them by the looks of the masses of volunteers who didn't appear. I will say it again. Brisbane is not prepared as we are and have to be on a yearly basis to handle a major disaster.

its too far out to tell at the moment Aymy. Will probably have a better idea in a couple of days. I would probably say realistically this far out, only a 5-10% chance. But i would keep my eyes peeled with the Bom or here.
