Latest Analyis of STC Yasi

This guy is actually really good, and well worth the watch because he goes into the “why it’s happening” and sticks to the science and facts while avoiding the BS that has infected this forum for the last few days, but most importantly he backs it all up with credible references.
As always, refer to the BOM for the best available guidance and warnings, but please if you have the time, watch this because it is actually very good.

The bom have said on ABC radio that they don't expect the cycone to deviate from its current course in which it crosses the coast by more than 50 k's. currently they have it crossing at deerwal by my reckoning.

Hey Ol mate well done on your extensive precautions and preps... I had a look at google earth for you the track maps and this.... USE this as a guid for now until it is updated ( BTW this is the winds if the eye is 170km to your north and a crossing between Cairns and Innisfail )

MAX SUSTAINED WINDS - 125 KT, GUSTS 150 KT
WIND RADII VALID OVER OPEN WATER ONLY
RADIUS OF 064 KT WINDS - 035 NM NORTHEAST QUADRANT
035 NM SOUTHEAST QUADRANT
035 NM SOUTHWEST QUADRANT
035 NM NORTHWEST QUADRANT
RADIUS OF 050 KT WINDS= 95km/hr - 080 NM NORTHEAST QUADRANT

This business of turning off power and water is a load of bollocks. Power may be turned off to move people out of evacuation areas, but water is not being turned off, and that is TCC's official line. TCC has a facebook page on this http://www.facebook.com/pages/Townsville-Disaster-Information/143046062423628
and posted this at about 5pm

TC Yasi is big (the technical bulletin has the southern semicircle diameter as 890km)

I have not seen any cyclones bigger than this in the Southern Hemisphere.
However, Super Typhoon Megi [2010] and Typhoon Morakot [2009] were both larger but these were in the Northern Hemisphere.

Others have mentioned Hurricane Katrina [2005] already.
I believe Hurricane Rita [2005] and Hurricane Ike [2008] were slightly larger than TC Yasi.

Fill your bath and anything that can hold drinking water, if you have empty bottles fill them and freeze them tonight, we will lose power for several days, and with that probably water as well, ( as in TC Joy) 3 days no water, the pool water In a bucket can be used to flush toilets
